General Description

The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth is a nonprofit dedicated to identifying and developing the talents of academically advanced K-12 students around the world. This position will contribute to the editorial aspects of publishing CTY's Imagine magazine as a writer and editor.


  • Write general stories and information for publications in CTY's Imagine magazine.
  • Conduct interviews in preparation for writing articles and collect information to develop content.
  • Edit stories written by other authors.
  • May attend events and functions to gather information.
  • Write analytic, interpretive, or highly individualized features.
  • Perform research of source materials and obtain and verify facts and analyze sources for accuracy and relevance to topic.
  • Conduct Internet searches to identify resources that are listed in the magazine.
  • Proofread all copy and final proofs.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field such as English, writing, or journalism required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least two years of related experience is required, including writing and editorial experience; 5 years preferred.
  • Experience working with middle or high school students in some capacity would be a plus.

Required Special Skills and Knowledge:

  • Solid writing and editorial skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work with others
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements for the Job:

  • Ability to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse pad and other office machinery
  • The incumbent will be required to communicate regularly via telephone and face to face with internal and external customers and must be able to exchange accurate and timely information in these settings
  • Position also requires a degree of mobility common to working in an office environment; bending, kneeling or standing during events and presentations may be required.
