General Description: 

The Annual Giving Data Specialist acts as a liaison within the Office of Annual Giving (OAG) for all data needs. The Annual Giving Data Specialist will conduct data extraction and segmentation using Johns Hopkins University’s donor database, ALADIN, and other end-user tools for direct mail, phone solicitations, email and social media appeals.

The Data Specialist will use critical thinking skills to review data and ensure that it is pulled according to specification. He/she should be able to also manage complex data orders and reporting requests from definition through the testing and implementation phases.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Operations & Data Analysis the Annual Giving Data Specialist duties include, but are not limited to:

Data Management (50%):

  • Track revenue and donor return on appeal codes per solicitation.
  • Assist in developing and managing the solicitation module.  
  • Work in conjunction with the Director and Associate Director of Data Analytics to measure success of OAG managed solicitations for all 35 development units across Johns Hopkins University and Medicine.
  • Identify and generate data queries for solicitations, acknowledgments, and pledge reminders.  
  • Assist with, and implement, various strategies to update biographical data for ALADIN constituents.
  • Assist with data mining to reach constituent populations by generation, class, geography, and solicitations based on specific potential donor interests.
  • Assist with the university’s phonathon data integration system.

Software/Technical (30%):

  • Use and maintain a record of secure FTP sites for the various vendors.
  • Maintain up-to-date service contracts and relationships with office staff, vendors, and IT personnel; use defined processes to evaluate and resolve technical or procedural problems.
  • Work in conjunction with the Associate Director and Director and members of the Department of Business Services to develop new automation procedures.
  • When needed, design new reports to improve department efficiency with handling data including data orders, data segmentations, and create appeal codes per solicitation appeal.

Customer Service to Colleagues (20%):

  • Use and maintain a record of secure FTP sites for the various vendors.
  • Attends and participate in divisional meetings, as well as external meetings as assigned.
  • Cross-train in and support web/internet maintenance.

Other Duties as Assigned

 

Qualifications: 

High School Diploma/GED required. Three years related experience required. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. Preference given to candidate with a degree in information technology, computer science/MIS or equivalent work experience in a data management or programming environment. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

 

Previous experience with donor databases and/or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software is required. Working knowledge of software applications, including Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Also familiar with Filemaker Pro, Crystal Reports and SQL is desired. Ability to multi-task and set priorities in a busy environment is essential.

Note: Requires ability to code Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and MS Access at an advanced level. Must have keen analytical skills and the ability to handle multiple projects with an emphasis on timeliness, quality and attention to detail.
