Business Development Associate Analyst

Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) is seeking a Business Development Associate Analyst  who will report to the Associate Director of Business Development within the Johns JHTV Corporate Partnerships team. In this role, the Business Development Associate Analyst supports the Business Development and partnering efforts for the JHTV Corporate Partnerships team. Responsibilities include development of market research, data analytics, and comprehensive analysis of prospective opportunities and providing alliance management support for new industry partnerships that arise from strategically important research collaborations. 


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs deep analysis of Johns Hopkins capabilities, know-how and research.
  • Designs and performs life-science and non-life science market research and landscape analysis.
  • Uses analysis to identify white spaces and prospecting opportunities.
  • Performs research to identify companies with potential interest in Johns Hopkins faculty research.
  • Supports sourcing, pitching, lead generation, and outreach.
  • Maintains records of industry engagement in customer relational database in support of marketing of inventions to appropriate contacts.
  • As needed, supports management of large-scale industry collaborations and agreements including overseeing deliverables and maintaining partnerships.


Scope of Responsibility:

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Associate Director, Business Development.
  • Works independently with all relevant technology tools to perform market research and analysis.
  • Knows the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures which may include some familiarity of other departments within the school/division.
  • Is sensitive to the interrelationship of both people and functions within the department.
  • Performs duties under strict adherence to the University’s Intellectual Property Policy.


Decision Making:

  • Makes recommendations but not the final decision concerning Corporate Partnerships and technology marketing.



  • Does not direct the activities of staff or a function.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering required.
  • Master’s degree in Life or Physical Sciences strongly preferred.
  • Other advanced degrees or combinations with directly related industry experience will also be considered.
  • Two (2) years or more business development experience in industry required.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident required due to Federal Export Controls
  • Ability to make independent judgments and act on decisions on a daily basis and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within the functional area.
  • Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously and to meet various concurrent deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Salesforce preferable.
  • Experience with various software applications (e.g. spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical and graphic packages), to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of industry and University employees.
  • Highly organized, resourceful, and detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.


JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
