General Summary/Purpose

 

This position provides business analysis and project management for the Department of Surgery.  Responsibilities include providing support for clinical operations, quality improvement efforts and department and division administration.  Support incorporates the use of data analytics, data collection, reporting, and information dissemination as directed. 

 

This position will report directly to the Department Administrator and the Department Chief Administrative Officer to ensure efficient and coordinated functioning of this role. The position will also need to be responsive to the Assistant Administrators and divisional Clinical Directors.

 

Specific Duties/Responsibilities

 

  • Develop appropriate clinical practice indicators to monitor faculty and staff performance to include: staff productivity, space utilization, physician cancellation rates, show rates, cost per unit comparisons, patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, etc.
  • Analyze ambulatory practices and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Analyze call center metrics and provide recommendations on process improvement initiatives that are coordinated with the medical offices.
  • Make recommendations related to facility needs, space planning, equipment, and resource allocation.
  • With assistance from the Assistant Administrator, monitors financial performance against budget and implement corrective action plans.
  • Provide leadership to project teams in planning, development and implementation of various departmental projects.
  • Provide guidance to influence the achievement of innovative and integrated solutions, by applying procedures, and analysis that translate business goals into functional/technical specifications and designs.
  • Assure implementation of projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to highly quality standards and meet the assigned expectations.
  • Build relationships with inside and outside affiliates.
  • Assist in data collection, analysis, and writing/editing of reports and other materials.
  • Manage multiple applications through planning, scheduling, assigning, coordinating, and reviewing tasks performed by staff.
  • Provide direct project management support to the Administrator to support divisional and departmental administrative efforts.

 

Quality Improvement:

 

  • Track activities, milestones, and deliverables and report out on a routine basis.  Work with teams/team members to meet targets and milestones.  Work with staff to define and provide data to leaders based on issues raised.
  • Develop work plans to achieve assigned goals and organize all activities in support of goals.
  • Provide technical support for quality improvement activities of the institute, clinical partners and work teams, specifically providing them with the necessary tools and approaches to improve specific measures of quality.
  • Organize cross-functional unit activities in support of goals including coordination and facilitation of meetings.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional technical and analyst experience in healthcare management, finance or information systems required.
  • Additional education may substitute for some required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

 

  • * JHU Equivalency Formula:  18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. *

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience in the health care environment.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications

 

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Knowledge of relational databases and EMR data structure.

  • The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
