Custodial Services Supervisor

 

General Summary:

The Custodial Services Supervisor will be responsible for managing the housekeeping custodial staff for the School of Medicine. He or she will oversee the management of staff responsible for the daily custodial operations.

Responsibilities will include maintaining the cooperative relationship between Facilities Management and the departments being provided these services, upholding the quality of services provided, and supervising the staff engaged in these activities.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The Custodial Services Supervisor will perform the specific functions outlined below.

  • Oversee the housekeeping services by:
  • maintaining close contact with the Director of Support Services to discuss the housekeeping needs for the facility;
  • conducting frequent physical inspections of the facility to ascertain that all services are provided as contracted;
  • overseeing the quality assurance program, as implemented by the Manager of Custodial Services;
  • overseeing the purchasing of supplies and equipment;
  • Coordinating the development of guidelines for standards in housekeeping and other programmed activities.
  • Supervise the Housekeeping Staff for JHU, School of Medicine.
  • Establish and maintain contact with outside service providers; initiate contact and oversee services, including pest control, from contracted sources when needed.
  • Take responsibility for personnel management, including interviewing and approving the hiring of staff, disciplinary action, and the upholding of contractual personnel guidelines.
  • Oversee and approve expenditures for the School of Medicine housekeeping budget.

Reporting:

  • The Custodial Services Supervisor will report to the Manger of Custodial Services in the Department of Facilities Management

 

Experience and Skills Required:

  • High school diploma/GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Five years’ experience in facilities operations or housekeeping services required
  • Five years supervisory experience preferred
  • General accounting skills; knowledge of JHU accounting system preferred.

 

 

Classified title:  Custodial Services Supervisor

Role/Level/Range: ATO, OE, Level 3, Exempt

Starting Salary Range:  $35,173 - $48,360 (commensurate with experience)

Employee group:  Full-Time

Employee subgroup:  Exempt

Schedule: Working 37.5 hours per week; Monday-Friday

Location:  Johns Hopkins East Baltimore Campus

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
