Research Associate

 

The Center for Government Excellence seeks a part-time (20 hours per week) Research Associate who will play a central role in designing, conducting, and sharing research. This role may transition to full-time in Spring 2018.

 

The Research Associate will support the Director of Applied Research on a wide range of projects across sectors, strengthening cities’ ability to leverage research and developing approaches tailored to the challenges of civic work. Qualified candidates must flourish in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

 

This position reports to the GovEx Director of Applied Research.
 

Specific responsibilities for a Research Associate include:

  • Prepare research plans and designs, including methodologies for quantitative research
  • Conduct analysis for research projects using the appropriate methodology
  • Collect, clean, and analyze data from city governments, national surveys, longitudinal studies, etc.
  • Prepare, disseminate, analyze qualitative data collection instruments
  • Recruit, prepare, and interview key informants
  • Conduct literature reviews from appropriate sources
  • Summarize project results
  • Present findings to GovEx team and external partners in the form of research papers at professional conferences, blog posts, or journal articles for publication

 

We seek an energetic, engaged professional with outstanding writing and interpersonal skills. Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, policy, or a related field required. Additional education (Master’s level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • A Master’s Degree in mathematics, statistics, policy, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Three years related experience required.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Experience in applying survey methodology and/or qualitative data collection methodology applied to policy research or evaluation
  • Ability to work independently and in a results-oriented workplace
  • Fluency in quantitative analytical methods, and the ability to work with and understand complex datasets
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with statistical software packages (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, or Stata) is a plus

Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
