Drupal Lead Developer

OFFICE AND BLOOMBERG SCHOOL OVERVIEW

 

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Office of External Affairs encompasses three teams: 1) Communications and Marketing; 2) Development and Constituent Relations and 3) Finance and Administration.

 

The award-winning Communications and Marketing team provides strategic communications, external and internal communications and marketing services for the School across a variety of digital, print and physical platforms. This includes brand and identity management, digital strategies and web services, editorial and content strategies, visual communications, media and public relations, social media and integrated marketing campaigns.

 

The School recently completed its Centennial year and is in the final year of a University- wide fundraising campaign, Rising to the Challenge. General Summary/Purpose

 

The Office of External Affairs is seeking a Drupal 8 Engineer to help architect a Drupal 8 website as we migrate jhsph.edu from our current CMS, SiteExecutive, to Drupal 8. This is a 3-year position starting approximately May 2018 ending May 2021.


The JHSPH web presence consists of www.jhsph.edu, magazine.jhsph.edu, over 80 center/institute websites, and 20 other domains we manage.

The www.jhsph.edu website contains over 20,000 pages, receives an average of 865,000 unique visitors per month from over 190 countries and has more than 350 content contributors.

The Drupal 8 Engineer will collaborate with the Digital Strategies and Web Services group, others in the Office of External Affairs, and the School and University throughout the project life cycle providing support for the planning, development and maintenance of a school-wide Drupal-based content management solution. This position will also work closely with vendors brought into the migration project. This position will assist in planning and executing content migration from our current CMS to Drupal 8. The Drupal 8 Engineer will assist in creating and configuring the new Drupal site, including theming, content types, taxonomies, and workflows, develop custom modules using PHP, and migrate SiteExecutive-based website. This position will mentor the web development group members on Drupal throughout the development process. The Drupal Engineer will report directly to the Director of Digital Strategy.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Assists the project team in planning and execution of a school-wide Drupal-based content management solution
  • Assists the project team in the planning and execution of content migration from current CMS, SiteExecutive, to Drupal
  • Serve as a pivotal person in the creation and configuration of the new Drupal 8 site including:
    • Theming
    • Content types
    • Taxonomies
    • Server & hosting setup
    • Content architecture
    • Access control & content workflow
    • Display architecture
    • Display & mobile strategy
    • Module vetting & architecture
    • Custom module design & development
    • Search & SEO
    • Third party integration
    • Configuration management
    • Caching strategy & performance tuning
  • Collaborates with the project team to provide advice and guidance on Drupal 8 best practices
  • Establishes repeatable processes for testing and deploying code
  • Help the team to set up sustainable strategies for ongoing maintenance and development
  • Equips the project team for the long-term maintenance of the site and team skills in the future
  • Serve as a liaison between the project team and outside vendors ensuring the School’s best interests are prioritized

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree.

 

5 years related experience.

 

Direct programming experience while pursuing education may count towards related experience.

 

Significant undergraduate programming coursework or independent project can be considered as related experience.

 

  • Expert knowledge of PHP
  • Expert knowledge of object-oriented programming principles
  • Expert knowledge Drupal 8
  • Demonstrable success on a project of similar size and scope
  • Ability to communicate technical topics to non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience building custom Drupal 8 modules
  • Experience utilizing existing Drupal 8 modules
  • Possess sound documentation skills
  • Must demonstrate exemplary customer service skills

 

Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

 

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Experience with Acquia cloud services
  • Experience with code testing and deployment
  • Experience developing websites using Acquia BLT
  • Acquia Lightning
  • Experience with academia, higher-education and public health mission oriented organizations a plus

 

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:

 

PHP or Drupal certifications are a plus (e.g. Acquia, Symfony, Zend)

Role/Level/Range: ATP /4/ PE

Starting Salary Range:  $67,114 - $90,000; commensurate with experience

Employee Group: Full-Time

Employee Subgroup: Exempt         

Schedule: M-F 37.5 hrs/week

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
