General summary/purpose

The research team of Dr. Deidra Crews from the Division of Nephrology and Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research at Johns Hopkins is seeking a Full-Time Research Program Assistant II for a research portfolio addressing disparities in chronic kidney disease. Among other projects, the position would involve supporting a NIH-sponsored dietary intervention study addressing barriers to healthful eating among low income African Americans with chronic kidney disease.


This position will involve assisting the co-principal investigators and research coordinator with preparation and dissemination of recruitment materials and telephone screening of potentially eligible participants. The Research Program Assistant II will be trained in administering testing protocols for study participants at follow-up intervals, and will assist in manuscript preparation, with a high potential for authorship.


Specific duties & responsibilities

  • Supporting the Five, Plus Nuts and Beans Study Interventionist during weekly interactions with study participants
  • Documenting study participants' weekly food orders
  • Assist with preparation of posters and manuscripts of the findings of the study team


Minimum qualifications

High school diploma/GED, and a minimum of two years related experience. Additional education may substitute for experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *


Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related discipline strongly preferred. Prior experience and/or education in clinical research. Must be highly motivated, organized, personable, willing to learn, responsible, reliable, and efficient. Must be comfortable working with patient populations.


Special knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Excellent computer skills and organizational skills a must as well as attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of software, including Microsoft Word and Excel is needed.
  • Requires outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills with participants, Principal Investigators, and other team members.
  • Interest in working with mentally ill/disadvantaged populations needed.
  • Knowledge of software, including Microsoft Word and Excel is needed.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
