General Description

Working under the general direction of the Senior Research Coordinator and Field Coordinator, the Research Program Assistant assists in collecting survey data, saliva/specimen samples and other data collection duties; assists in setting up appointments with study participants; consenting and surveying participants in and outside of the office; assists in collecting specimens for analysis from homes in Baltimore City; completes necessary documentation and data collection processes; and properly handles and stores saliva and other specimens for future shipment; assists in shipping specimens.

Follow research protocol pertaining to (a) travel to participants’ homes to assist in collecting saliva specimens and study materials; (b) assist in saliva/specimen collection, handling and shipping; (c) facilitate surveys, (d) program/review text messages, (e) complete necessary documentation and data collection accurately and legibly, (f) provide feedback to co-investigators regarding participant problems and concerns related to saliva collection, (g) report irregularities or adverse events to appropriate study personnel and (h) other research tasks as needed.

 

Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED.

Some related experience. Experience working with victims of domestic violence is preferred. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

An ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and extraverted with strong ties to the East Baltimore and/or West Baltimore communities. This position will require travel to participants’ residences. The candidate must have an active driver’s license, auto insurance, and a reliable vehicle. Participants need a strong attention to detail and protocol adherence, and flexibility to respond to casual requests. Strong interpersonal skills are essential.

 

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
