Research Program Assistant

 

General summary/purpose:

 

Research Program Assistant for outreach-based behavioral research study among persons who inject drugs in rural areas.

 

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
 

The RPC will participate in data collection activities, including consent procedures, participant screening, and interviewing using computerized interviewing tools.

 

Minimum qualifications:

 

High school diploma/GED. Some related experience.

 

Preferred qualifications:

 

Some college courses preferred. Prior experience with HIV behavioral research preferred. Maryland HIV pre- and post-test counseling certification preferred. The successful candidate must be attentive to detail, able to work independently and in a team setting, and able to interact with a variety of people. Some related experience and interest in HIV, HCV and overdose prevention preferred. Experience with computers and data collection technologies preferred. Prior experience with study populations and/or other diverse populations preferred. Able to occasionally work flex hours preferred.

 

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 

Knowledgeable about communities at increased risk for HIV and HCV, preferably with experience working with drug users or other marginalized populations. Must be willing and able to travel independently between research sites across Western Maryland.

Starting Salary Range:   $11.95-$16.44

Employee Group: Limited  

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hrs/wk.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
