Sr. Financial Analyst

The Office of the Dean is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst  who is responsible for financial forecasting and projections using trend analysis. This position is also responsible for capital budgeting and providing budgetary support for all interdivisional activities. This individual performs these functions for non-sponsored activities across the Krieger School. Utilizes knowledge of the university's financial accounting systems and appropriate applications of the School’s policies and procedures.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs complex statistical, cost and financial analysis of data reported in various JHU systems
  • Interprets data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project future financial performance asset and depreciation monitoring
  • Monitoring unidentified cash receipts
  • Assign/review roles/security in SAP
  • Monitor/reconcile school wide petty cash accounts
  • Monitor and properly categorize revenue transactions based on natural class categories
  • Prepare year-end funding entries for capital projects
  • Creates and updates database records with minimal errors
  • Assures that data collection, entry, analysis and report generation are accurate and completed within established deadlines
  • Administer financial aspects of Bloomberg Distinguished Professors and other joint programs
  • Collaborates with Facilities Manager on capital budget and divisional space plan
  • Oversee financial aspects of non-sponsored graduate fellowships held by the Dean’s office
  • Administer monthly statement distribution and verification of regular statement reconciliation using SharePoint
  • Monitor and resolve financial discrepancies within KSAS using various reporting and analysis tools
  • Assist in preparation of five year strategic financial plan
  • Perform reporting and forecasting of gifts/endowments
  • Calculate and distribute revenue sharing per establish models
  • Assist in preparing quarterly financial analysis
  • Utilize external vendor based reporting tools as well as JHU provided dashboards


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or other related field
  • Five years progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience
  • Additional education (Master's in a related field) may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*


JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • MS EXCEL – Advanced, with demonstrated knowledge of Pivot tables, formulas and other advanced Excel tools and functions preferred
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills (have an insatiable desire to solve business challenges)
  • Creating Dashboards with PowerBI
  • Understanding of financial reporting
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, all staff levels, and students and provide excellent customer service
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions with direction (as necessary) from others
  • Must be able to interpret technical and detailed guidelines, policies and procedures, as well as explain or describe moderately complex information and presentation materials
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time without direction, prioritize own work, work with flexibility in several tasks simultaneously and to meet concurrent deadlines also require
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgments in making decisions
  • Must be highly efficient, able to set priorities and manage changing priorities in order to meet deadlines

Role/Level/Range: ATP/04/PD 
Starting Salary Range: $59,870 - $82,250 annually (commensurate with experience)

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
