General Summary

The JHU Student Accounts Team Lead-Third Party is located on the Homewood Campus and reports to Student Account Manager.  The Student Account Team Lead- Third Party assists with the day-to-day operations of the JHU Shared Service Office, which includes corresponding to the students, internal offices and the Third Party vendors. This position acts as the first level of support for the Student Accounts Coordinators-Third Party in their daily functions, ensuring timely billing and submission to third party sponsors, posting of payments along with regular follow up on unpaid contracts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond to students, parents, sponsors and staff in person, on the phone, and via e-mail or written correspondence to resolve issues regarding sponsor invoicing and payments and to facilitate solutions to their concerns and issues.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of the sponsor transactions (reviewing of contracts, memos, billing, payments, and adjustments) recorded in Student Billing System.
  • Assist with establishing and improving procedures and processing methods to meet production and performance goals.
  • Monitor the postings of payments received in banks and posted into SBS. Must ensure timely, accurate and complete posting to the student/sponsor account.
  • Research, resolve and respond to routine inquiries from internal and external sources regarding inquires and/or discrepancies by phone or email.
  • Train and orient new hires.
  • Update/Create training documents as needed based on changes in processes.
  • Mentor and assist the Student Accounts Coordinators.
  • Responsible for creating a work environment that maintains confidentiality.
  • Work with members from all JHU Student Accounts Offices to create and manage effective relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.


High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Additional education may substitute for some experience.


Two years of related billing, payment application and third party vendor management experience in a higher education student accounts office preferred.  Additional experience working in student accounts and other billing offices may be substituted for Education.  Must have prior customer service experience, excellent oral and written communications skills; excellent organization skills and attention to detail; and working knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel. Prior experience with SIS & SAP would be beneficial but not required.

JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
