Technical Learning and Development Consultant


General Description

As part of the office of Learning and Organizational Development within the Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) organization, designs and delivers learning interventions and leads change management focused on systems and technology solutions for DAR. Designs, develops, prepares, and manages course materials, job aids, and performance support materials. Leverages customer service data and customer feedback to improve existing offerings and inform development of new ones. Reviews technical training curriculum for instructional integrity, currency, and effectiveness.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide internal consulting (focused on technology) that creates measurable performance solutions and long-term growth and development for all employees.
  • Design, develop, and implement/facilitate classroom, e-learning, and virtual training for specialized and DAR-wide technology training programs, and individual business units.
  • Provide recommendations based on learning needs assessment results and design learning solutions using established learning and development best practices and tools. 
  • Assess impact of technology change on the business to formulate the change management strategy, which includes plans and recommendations to improve user adoption and minimize impact on the business.
  • Develop comprehensive change management plans to support complex change technology transformation initiatives.
  • Develop and implement educational strategies, methodologies and delivery mechanisms to achieve DAR’s technology strategy including new system implementation.
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate training curriculum, exercises, assessments, supporting documentation, and other materials to be used in training
  • Deliver end-user training and support for complex constituent database application (all modules and functionality) along with other products and services. Partners with subject matter experts to co-teach/co-facilitate courses where appropriate.
  • Assist with developing and deploying methods for measuring training effectiveness and incorporates learning into delivery and design of future courses.
  • Develop and maintains end user documentation, performance support tools, and job aids.
  • Anticipate and resolve project issues; escalate as appropriate to project leads and supervisors.
  • Serve as subject matter expert regarding product enhancements, and customer services issues related to area of responsibility.
  • Ensure individual project deliverables are high quality, meet expectations, and follow adult learning and instructional design principles



  • Bachelor’s degree with three years progressively responsible related experience in planning and teaching of classes.
  • Possesses subject matter expertise in consulting, change management, and technical training.
  • Must have ability to transfer knowledge to staff, develop new training modules, and advance training documentation.
