Sr. Development Coordinator

SAIS is excited to announce an opening for a Senior Development Coordinator in its Office of Development and Alumni Relations. The SAIS Office of Development and Alumni Relations’ work touches the Western Hemisphere, Europe, Asia, and Africa, and is informed by a dedicated Board of Advisors.

 

General Description

 

The Senior Development Coordinator will oversee gift and pledge accounting, information and data management, stewardship, annual fund, and related duties. This position aligns with core operations for SAIS DAR, such as Volunteer and Constituent Engagement, Annual Giving, Gift Administration, and Development Operations.  The Coordinator will report directly to the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Relations. 

 

The position will provide strategic and operational support for stewardship and volunteer leadership groups and committees including the SAIS Board of Advisors, Legacy Circle, Dean’s Circle, Christian Herter Society (CHS), and other volunteer fundraising groups. The Coordinator will proactively identify, develop, implement and evaluate new opportunities to engage, steward and recognize SAIS volunteers and significant donors.

 

The primary responsibilities and duties of the position include: 

 

Stewardship:

  • Curate and implement a series of experiences to help move donors and prospects along the donor continuum with a particular focus on donor communications and unique stewardship opportunities, based on giving level, type and donor engagement metrics, such a donor loyalty programs, first time giving programs, etc.
  • Manage engagement opportunities and key milestone celebrations for major institutional donors (birthday campaigns, etc.)
  • Create and manage identity-based giving circles with volunteer support, fund stewardship and sustainable membership structure, in collaboration with affinity programs

Volunteer Engagement: 

  • Provide substantive support to the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations for volunteer leadership groups and committees at SAIS; with activities including, but not limited to, planning and logistics, compiling materials and minutes, writing briefings, and event support specifically for all of the SAIS Board and council meetings. 
  • Create and manage a system for tracking leadership donors to ensure successful transitions and enhance planning efforts; work with gift officers, Directors and Associate Dean to evaluate and develop succession plans for volunteer leaders.
  • Support activities related to the engagement efforts with existing donor stewardship programs such as the Legacy Circle, CHS, and divisional-based giving societies.
  • Draft and oversee administration of Board and Council members communications in conjunction with the Associate Dean and Directors of Development
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a creative donor experience model, with a particular focus on cultivating the pipeline of annual giving donors and continuing engagement of donors. This centrally-based position will require collaboration and coordination with teams across Development and Alumni Relations in order to support both engagement and fundraising goals.

General Support

  • Manage the Associate Dean’s calendar including scheduling meetings and appointments as well as planning travel itineraries and leadership briefings.
  • Assisting the Development Coordinator with office management including gift processing, reporting, answering phones, photocopying, filing, organizational needs, and other basic administrative tasks.
  • Manage, coordinate or assist with other projects and events as required.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Five years related administrative experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

 JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.   

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience in prospect development or in a higher education advancement setting is preferred. 

 Special Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

This position requires a high level of independent judgment and decision-making; strong oral, written, organizational, and social skills; the exercise of creativity, problem recognition, and resolution; the abilities to negotiate, concentrate and multi-task; great attention to detail and the ability to follow-through to completion; as well as an enthusiasm for working with people. Sense of humor, extraordinary tact, and the foresight to anticipate and remove obstacles are highly desirable traits.  Requires a willingness and availability to work nights and weekends several times per year.

 

This position requires the ability to effectively interact with Board of Trustee members and $1 million donors. Must be self-directed and able to independently develop solicitation strategy and plan board meetings. Operates autonomously and reports out to management and leadership.

 

Exercises administrative judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within the functional area. Knows the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures that include familiarity with other departments within the school. Strong computer skills preferred; a working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. The incumbent will be trained in the use of the JHU development database.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
