Accountant

We are seeking an Accountant. The general purpose of this position is to perform routine accounting transactions in support of the Real Estate Department. Prepare, maintain, review, and analyze various financial statements, records, and reports. Reconcile account activities and resolve discrepancies.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Record, classify, summarize financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Apply working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verify documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies.
  • Assist with the preparation of Excel based financial models for the above, including extensive sensitivity analysis and cash flow projections.
  • Initiate and process journal entries. May reconcile sub-ledgers to general ledger accounts.
  • Research and resolve accounting issues and discrepancies pertaining to financial reporting transactions, ensuring compliance with University procedures and policies.
  • Using templates, prepare and maintain financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of department monitoring and compliance reports.
  • Perform variance analysis and prepare schedules for annual audited financial statements.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for internal and external meetings.
  • May assist in preparing federal, state and other regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with established guidelines; keep informed of governmental regulations and procedures affecting the institution's finance and accounting procedures.
  • Serve as a resource to other departments accounting staff with respect to account reconciliations, journal entries, and preparation of financial statement and reports.
  • Use various software applications, e.g., spreadsheets to manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or Related field.
  • No experience required. If Bachelor's Degree is in unrelated field, two years of progressively responsible experience is required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Real Estate Accounting.
