General Description:

Oversee financial transactions relating to intercompany transactions between the Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Health System business areas.  Interface with departmental representatives at all levels as well as senior financial management. Respond to inquiries from internal and external sources, review accounting transactions and resolve discrepancies.  Maintain open communication with Hopkins departments, affiliated organizations and auditors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review, approve and process intercompany transfers and journal entries emailed to the shared Inter-Entity mailbox from across the University and Health System daily. Review requires applying a working knowledge of applicable laws, GAAP accounting and regulations for both sponsored and non-sponsored funds
  • Settle intercompany balance with JHHS affiliates monthly via wires.  Record entries on shared spreadsheet
  • Set up and process recurring cost allocations to distribute costs between JHU and JHHS affiliates monthly
  • Participate on Intercompany Solutions committee with JHU and JHHS
  • Answer questions, provide guidance, and disseminate information based on knowledge and understanding of programs, initiatives, goals and objectives of the office
  • Test SAP Support Packs and Upgrades for CO as needed
  • Provide customer service support to both JHU and JHHS for intercompany processing
  • Interpret office operating policies and exercise independent judgment in the resolution of problems
  • Assist in writing/updating policies and procedures related to intercompany process
  • Perform other duties as requested


Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Related field is required. If the Bachelor’s degree is in an unrelated field, two years of progressively responsible experience is required. Additional education may substitute for the required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Experience with various software applications such as Excel spreadsheets and Word is required.  Power Point is preferable.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
