General summary/purpose:

The Admissions Manager provides leadership and management for the admissions function of Engineering for Professionals (EP), the part-time, graduate division of the JHU Whiting School of Engineering.  The manager is a key member of the strategic enrollment management team and directly responsible for setting and achieving projected admissions goals each semester.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

50% Graduate Admissions

  • Oversees the processing and evaluation of over 3,500 applications for master’s degree, graduate certificate, and non-degree programs annually.
  • Manages EP graduate student admissions and enrollment external presence (e.g., policies, website content, and publications) in collaboration with academic departments.
  • Manages the CRM application system (with assistance from the Homewood Office of Graduate Admissions), application-SIS interface, and similar systems within the office.
  • Aids academic programs in meeting their application and enrollment goals.
  • Contributes to online and on-site information sessions for all EP graduate programs to drive projected enrollment.
  • Works with Export Control to review international applications to determine their US eligibility for education.
  • Provides excellent customer service for applicants and programs.

30% Performance Management

  • Conducts annual reviews of staff performance and drives personal improvement.
  • Provides ongoing constructive feedback and motivation for higher collaboration and performance.
  • Prioritizes and directs work efforts.
  • Reviews prospective employee applications, conducts interviews, and makes recommendations for hire.
  • Promotes a model and culture of exceptional customer service.
  • Serves as a mentor and positive role model for staff.

15% Information Technology

  • Implements technology initiatives that improve yield numbers and admissions and enrollment processes (e.g., online application and enrollment services, databases, and file sharing).
  • Participates in graduate information systems planning, project management, service excellence, and system update and implementation coordination with other EP departments, other JHU schools, Mt. Washington (central IT), and Slate, Salesforce, and other software systems.

5% Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communication, education management, or other related fields.
  • Five years of progressively responsible admissions, recruiting, or enrollment experience, including supervisory/management responsibility.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience with graduate professional programs preferred.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Proven success in recruitment of diverse students in a higher education environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of mainframe student information systems and technical expertise with application and CRM systems, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Internet end-user applications.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
