Assistant Director Experiential Learning

 

General Summary/Purpose:

The Assistant Director will assist in program and curriculum development, program management, and administration for curricular experiential learning at the Carey Business School. This role will also collaborate with Student Ventures, coexisting under the Office of Experiential Learning, to assist in developing a unified approach to curricular and co-curricular departmental efforts. The position requires programmatic planning; collaboration with faulty; faculty, staff, and student training; administrative responsibilities; program oversight; budget management, and an entrepreneurial working style. The Assistant Director will be located in Baltimore with travel to Washington, DC, as needed. Off hours/weekends maybe required to accommodate program needs. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Experiential Learning and Program Risk Management.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Innovation for Humanity Project.
  • Collaborate throughout the year with international partners to develop consulting project course in 4 locations (examples: Rwanda, Peru, Ecuador, and the US), including 3 week in-country phase; assist course faculty develop and implement the program.
  • Collaborate with program staff to secure vendor contracts for hotel, flights, transportation, and event management.
  • Develop and organize in-country operations and logistics for 3 locations, implement program in-country (1 location).
  • Assist students with logistics: risk management training, health consultations, passport, visa, and transportation issues.

 
Global Immersion Programs:

  • Collaborate with faculty to develop program content and proposal for three locations; promote courses to the student body.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and manage on-ground delivery of the program to include the management of the activity of faculty and staff program participants.
  • Survey students and develop new programs matching student interest.
  • Assist students with logistics: health consultations, passport, visa, and transportation issues.
  • Budget responsibility.
  • Partnership development and contracting responsibilities.

 

New Program Development

  • Assist Director of Experiential Learning in the development of new experiential programming.

 
Risk Management:

  • Manage risk management compliance for the I4H and Global Immersion programs

 
Other:

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three years of experience in aspects of academic program administration or program/project administration in the areas of marketing, finance, business, graduate level higher education, or other related experience. Additional experience may substitute for advanced education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in education or specific field related to program from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
  • Five years or more related experience strongly preferred.
  • 2 or more years’ experience working in international and entrepreneurial settings strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge and appreciation for the following critical business concepts: entrepreneurship, consulting, social entrepreneurship, project management, international and domestic economic development, urban economic ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of, or demonstrable interest in, experiential learning concepts and practices.
  • Program and project management, self-starter, and ability to work through ambiguity and take initiative.
  • Knowledge of academic program development, and corresponding program management and administrative functions.
  • Knowledge of program budget development and management.
  • Relationship development experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a varied constituency including faculty, staff in multiple departments, students, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for corresponding, analysis, information storage, and presentation.
  • Strong meeting planning and logistics management skills.
  • As a representative of the School, presents a professional image.
  • Cross-cultural competence and experience of working in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Working knowledge of emerging business trends.

Starting Salary Range: $45,195 - $62,225

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30-5pm plus evenings and weekends as needed to accommodate student programming

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
