Assistant Director Worklife Programs

The Department of Benefits and Worklife seeks an Assistant Director of Worklife Programs who will manage and implement Worklife programs to address university culture and employee needs including EAP, wellness, family support, and community programs. Reporting to the Director of Benefits Strategy and Service, this role will specifically lead the hybrid Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for the Johns Hopkins Enterprise and provide operational and strategic oversight of three child care centers. 


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision of Worklife staff to ensure team is effectively and strategically supporting the University’s initiatives related to Worklife programs.
  • With support of Director, Benefits Strategy and Service, establish and implement strategic plan surrounding Worklife programs.
  • Remain connected to Worklife trends in order to ensure the University remains competitive in support of our faculty and staff.
  • Ensure effective communication of program initiatives to drive the highest level of utilization.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of programs and services delivery methods, based on desired outcomes.
  • Work in tandem with the finance office to meet the budgetary requirements of the programs and tracks costs associated with all programmatic projects.
  • Provide effective reporting of program utilization.
  • Assess workloads, administrative support systems, and internal working relationships to identify and lead opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare for a variety of meetings, presentations, discussions, etc., by researching and gathering critical information and intelligence on issues; creating reports and presentations; preparing briefings; developing and proposing agenda items; conducting necessary follow-ups; and briefing leaders on the state of affairs, critical points, and sensitivities.
  • Develop institutional relationships; collaborate and liaise extensively with a variety of individuals on different matters central to Worklife programs.
  • Interface with key leadership and leadership offices across the university and health system.
  • Ensure efficient collaboration/coordination among different departments/units.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Psychology strongly preferred.
  • 5 years progressive experience in HR, Benefits, and/or Worklife Programs.
  • 5 years of experience managing people.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Power Point and Excel.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.


The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
