Assistant Director of Leadership Annual Giving, Carey Business School

Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a remote work arrangement with an onsite presence of three days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.
The Assistant Director of Leadership Annual Giving at the Carey Business School is responsible for securing annual fund donations, with a primary focus on closing gifts ranging from $1,000 - $5,000. This position serves as the school’s lead fundraiser for donor discovery, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospects to raise the school’s leadership annual giving donor count. This role will focus on cultivating both current and new annual donors to increase the number and level of donations received at Carey Business School. Positioned between the school’s annual giving/direct mail program and major gift program, this role is instrumental in cultivating prospects who could eventually become major donors and identifying donors who might be ready for a major gift conversation in the effort to grow the pipeline. This position will design, execute, and manage the annual giving strategy and the school’s Business Leadership Society, while working closely with Carey gift officers, the central JHU Office of Annual Giving, and other departments across Carey. This position reports to the Director of Development.
Key responsibilities:
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors who have the capacity to make financial commitments ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 and manage a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects.
- Conduct a minimum of 120 in-person and virtual meetings with alumni and constituents to qualify new philanthropic and volunteer leaders for the school.
- Identify and recruit new members for volunteer leadership opportunities, including the Dean’s Advisory Board.
- Manage the school’s annual leadership-giving society, the Business Leadership Society, including preparing and executing two appeals annually. This involves writing copy, coordinating approval from the Associate Dean and Director of Development, and managing the production and delivery of the mailing.
- In conjunction with the central JHU Office of Annual Giving, develop and execute a comprehensive annual giving program with specific goals and performance metrics, including but not limited to donor acquisition, retention, and upgrades.
- Assist with planning and implementation of specialty campaigns and selected Giving Days.
- Provide support to Carey’s Office of Student Affairs and other student-led programs to secure funding and sponsorships for their programs and events.
- Develop and lead strategies to effectively engage key geographic, professional, and interest-based alumni constituencies in alignment with the school’s fundraising priorities.
- Serve as an effective ambassador for the Carey Business School and the University, with a deep understanding of research, teaching, and program-related funding priorities.
- Assist with Development and Alumni Relations, Carey Business School, and Johns Hopkins University functions and tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Two years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of related professional experience working in higher education, fundraising, alumni relations, constituent engagement, and/or annual giving.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities while thriving in a fast-paced, team-focused, results-driven environment.
- Exhibit strong attention to detail and timely execution of projects.
- Ability to make independent decisions and possess the discernment to know when such autonomy is warranted.
- Work collaboratively with a diverse group of constituents, institutional leaders, faculty, and professional peers.
- Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels within an organization, both internally and externally, and maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with the business community.
- Possess and maintain a working knowledge of the corporate environment and of business school education.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint with a willingness to learn new technologies.
- Ability to travel and to work weekends and/or evenings as needed.

This salary range does not include all components of the Carey Business School compensation program. This position may be eligible for a discretionary retention and performance bonus, based on individual performance and the Carey Business School performance during the applicable fiscal year, as determined by the leaders of the Carey Business School in their sole discretion. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary slightly from the salary range stated herein.
