Associate Director Admissions

 

General Summary/Purpose:

The Associate Director, Admissions is responsible for developing innovative recruitment strategies and managing existing recruitment initiatives for full-time, degree-seeking students in support of annually established enrollment goals at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. The Associate Director assists the Director of Admissions in providing leadership as a member of the Admissions senior leadership team and directly supervises the admissions recruitment team. The Associate Director will personally manage a recruitment territory requiring intermittent domestic/international travel and will serve as the primary recruiter for a subset of full-time MBA candidates. This position requires a team-oriented approach, an appreciation for innovation in recruitment and best practices in Admissions, and strong customer-service orientation.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management (25%)

• Supervise recruitment staff and manage work-flow of team

• Provide training and professional development opportunities to create a high-performing recruitment team

• Hire/onboard new recruitment staff as needed

• Maintain oversight of the daily work of recruitment team members to ensure recruitment goals are met

• Oversee the development of annual recruitment plans

 

Student Recruitment (50%)

• Implement domestic and international recruitment strategy to achieve student recruitment goals across all full-time programs

• Help to develop and implement program-specific yield management plans to convert admitted candidates to enrolled students with the goal of increasing yield and reducing melt

• Work collaboratively with the admissions team, faculty, staff, and administration in addressing outreach and recruitment issues and opportunities for meeting enrollment goals

• Provide data and reports in support of evaluating recruitment strategies

• Assist the Director of Admissions in preparing materials for admission committee review for the full-time MBA Program. Serve as a representative from the Office of Admissions on the MBA Admission Committee

• Based on annual recruitment plans, work with the Director of Admissions to set recruitment event schedule each semester

• Personally manage a recruitment territory, set goals for territory, attend and host events within said territory

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge on all Johns Hopkins Carey Business School degree programs, application procedures, and scholarship opportunities

• Advise prospective students in assigned areas/program(s) and provide personalized service through all stages of the enrollment funnel

 

Admissions Decisions (25%)

• For full-time MBA program, ensure timely and effective compilation of materials for admission committee review

• Ensure accurate and timely entry of admission committee decisions and scholarship awards into Slate

• Interview full-time MBA applicants, review applicant files, and recommend acceptance or denial based upon admissions criteria

• Serve as a back-up application reader for specialty master’s programs as necessary

• Make scholarship recommendations

 

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university required

• Five years of related experience required

• Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

• Demonstrated track record in meeting recruitment goals in an educational or other related environment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university strongly preferred

• 3-5 years of related experience in higher education student recruitment and admissions preferred, experience within an AACSB-accredited business school strongly preferred

• Previous experience with Slate preferred

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent sales ability; must be able to recruit in highly competitive market

• Requires a high degree of professionalism

• Knowledge of higher education student recruitment events, especially at the graduate level

• Knowledge of emerging technologies to support admissions and student recruitment

• Exceptional public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills; with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively at all organizational levels, and with diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic constituents

• Strong customer service skills

• Ability to work collaboratively and build solid working relationships with the admissions team, faculty, staff, administration, and outside corporate partners

• Proven ability to assess priorities, with the ability to respond quickly to changing needs and to balance competing responsibilities

• Must understand how data is used to manage the prospect funnel from inquiry through enrolled student

• Strong organizational, administrative and problem-solving skills

• Strong attention to details

• Ability to work independently, both on- and off-site

• Ability to travel domestically on a regular basis and internationally on an occasional basis

• Evening and/or weekend work required

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
