Associate Director of Clinical Collaboratives

Student Health and Well-Being (SHWB) Mental Health Services (MHS) at Johns Hopkins University seeks an energetic, organized, and motivated Associate Director of Clinical Collaboratives to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on delivering innovative mental healthcare and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners.


The Associate Director of Clinical Collaboratives will serve as the Coordinator of Eating Disorder Services and supervises the team of 5-7 staff and clinical coordinators for substance abuse disorders, trauma-focused services, and other areas of complex clinical focus. Mental Health Services works closely with primary care to support patients through structured and holistic collaborative care teams and has a well-established Eating Disorder Collaborative that will serve as the model for the Clinical Collaboratives program.


The Associate Director of Clinical Collaboratives will liaise with primary care, psychiatry providers, and other key stakeholders to design and implement the expansion of the Clinical Collaboratives program within MHS. The person in this position will work closely with members of the MHS leadership team to ensure that specialty clinical services across the organization and all locations run smoothly and center the provision of equitable, culturally responsive care. The person in this role may also represent Mental Health Services on relevant committees with liaise with divisional student affairs offices in service of supporting clients with complex concerns.


The unique nature of the MHS organizational and service structure requires substantial collaboration with the direct supervisors of other clinical staff across the portfolio to ensure that staff receive multi-dimensional supervision and feedback, as well as support for their professional growth. Additionally, the Associate Director of Clinical Collaboratives will actively model and facilitate teamwork, staff engagement, and commitment to the mission and goals of Mental Health Services and the Student Health and Well-Being division.


This position will be primarily based at the Homewood and East Baltimore campuses but may support staff and participate in specialty clinical service delivery and oversight at other clinic locations. Flexible hours are required at key times in the academic year (e.g. orientation and special events) including evenings and weekends. The Associate Director of Clinical Collaboratives will be a member of the MHS leadership team call schedule to provide support for significant campus emergencies.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position’s direct clinical service responsibilities will be primarily based at the Homewood and East Baltimore clinics but may provide virtual or in-person services and supervision at other locations in Maryland or Washington, D.C. See minimum qualifications for required timeframes for licensure. Jurisdictions required: Maryland and Washington, D.C.


Supervision and Clinical Collaboratives Program (55-60%)

  • Develops and oversees the expansion of the Clinical Collaboratives program in partnership with primary care, psychiatry providers and other relevant clinical resources.
  • Effectively manages direct reports, including goal setting, performance evaluations, performance management, and related HR processes; works collaboratively with leadership team members to provide multi-dimensional supervision to all therapists.
  • Produces and contributes to policies and procedures, reports, needs assessments, quality improvement processes related to Clinical Collaboratives.
  • Contributes to professional development of trainees and SHWB staff through provision of didactic training and seminars, with a particular focus on eating disorders and integrated care models.
  • In collaboration with the MHS leadership team, develops and facilitates onboarding and training plans for clinical coordinator staff; contributes to training of other new staff as appropriate.
  • Leads and participates in multi-disciplinary clinical and administrative teams including clinic staff meetings, case consultation, high-risk case management, peer chart reviews, medical leave review, accreditation, and other committees as directed.
  • Participates in clinical training programs; licensed psychologists will enter the pool of available individual supervisors for the APA-approved psychology internship training program after 2 years of post-licensure experience.
  • Develops, implements and integrates evaluation feedback for psycho-educational workshops and other presentations for JHU students and learners, with special focus on eating disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns. (e.g., struggles with food and body image)
  • Leads or participates in clinical provider searches and participates in MHS-wide recruitment and hiring processes.
  • Leads and contributes to staff development, engagement, and teambuilding activities for Homewood staff as well as larger MHS-wide events.


Direct Clinical Service (25-30%, based on demand and clinic needs)

  • Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.
  • Develops and implements specialty clinical assessment interventions with a special focus on eating disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns, to assist MHS providers in delivering optimal care to their clients.
  • Develops and implements group interventions with a particular focus on eating disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns. (e.g., struggles with food and body image)
  • Utilizes both flexible and goal-oriented approaches to individual treatment, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and interpersonal therapy, often in collaboration with psychiatric providers.
  • Collaborates with providers within SHWB as an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Consults, as appropriate, with providers in the community to facilitate continuity of care.


Collaborative and Other Activities (10-15%)

  • Participates in outreach and educational activities including resource fairs, community meetings, and training for JHU faculty, staff, and students.
  • Remains abreast of current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence-based intervention strategies, with a particular focus on eating disorders and integrated care models.
  • Contributes to staff development, engagement, and team building activities for Homewood staff as well as larger MHS-wide events.
  • Participates in MHS leadership team call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Specialized training and/or experience with assessment, diagnosis and interventions for eating disorders and related/comorbid mental health concerns (e.g., past employment at an eating disorders treatment center or role focusing on care for individuals diagnosed with eating disorders) is strongly preferred.
  • Clinical experience with presenting concerns prevalent within the student and learner population is strongly preferred; examples include identity development, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, disordered eating, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD.
  • Experience independently executing psycho-educational presentations, programs and events for a wide audience.
  • Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.


Additional Information (Working Conditions)

Schedule

  • This is a 37.5 hour/week position. One evening clinic (6 or 7 pm) per week may be required based on programmatic needs; additional flexible scheduling may be possible.
  • This position requires occasional evening and weekend work dependent on the programmatic needs of the University and for activities during the academic year (e.g., orientation, special events, etc.).
  • One day of remote work is standard; additional remote days may be required or permitted based on operational needs.
  • This is a 12-month, year-round position.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a supervisory role responsible for the management and evaluation of employees.
  • Licensed as a mental health provider in the required jurisdiction(s) noted in the job description (psychologist, LMFT, LCPC, LCSW-C) or license-eligible (licensed as a mental health provider in another jurisdiction, must obtain licensure in required jurisdiction(s) within 6 months of hire).


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an accredited program.
  • Experience with APA-approved training programs as a clinical supervisor and familiarity with the compliance requirements for accreditation of APA-approved internships in health service psychology.
  • Clinical experience in a university setting is strongly preferred.
