Biostatistician

The Johns Hopkins Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Precision Medicine Centers of Excellence (PMCOE) is looking for a Biostatistician to join our multi-disciplinary team of physicians, scientists, clinical and administrative staff, dedicated to research and clinical improvement in lung disease and management.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Biostatistician will conduct analysis of data for the benefit of multiple studies linked to the COPD Precision Medicine Centers of Excellence (PMCOE).
  • Oversee data management activities; including completion of data collection, entry, error reports, transferring, and editing raw datasets as necessary, keeping a good tracking of any change.
  • Strong skills in interpersonal communication, collaboration, scientific writing, and managing competing priorities are required. We encourage and expect mentoring of medical students, research fellows, and Master’s level students in the development of their statistical understanding and research careers.
  • This person will use the Precision Medicine Analytics Platform (PMAP) to acquire data and be a quality control specialist for data integrity.
  • This person will work independently, and as part of a team with the PMCOE principal investigators and other study team members, to conduct complex custom analysis to predict health outcomes and adverse health events, prepare reports, conduct preliminary analysis for publications and presentations.
  • Manage and analyze complex cross-sectional and longitudinal databases.
  • Analytics skills appropriate for cross-sectional, case-control, and prospective study design including analysis of randomized control trial (RCT) data.
  • Skills in extracting, annotating, reformatting, and summarizing computer output for presentation to investigators.
  • Skills spanning a range of statistical and epidemiological methods (e.g., generalized linear mixed models, longitudinal data analysis, and survival analysis).
  • Skills in graphical representation of data.
  • Skills in writing abstracts, presentations, reports, and manuscripts for publishing in scientific journals.


Essential Job Functions

  • Must be flexible, reliable, and responsible with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to take initiative to implement positive changes, solve problems, and work independently.


Experience

  • Experience with biostatistics software packages, including STATA, SAS, and/or R.
  • Experience with managing, cleaning, and merging large datasets (>5000 patients).


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse multi-disciplinary team.


Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Experience in statistical analysis, database management & data analysis including longitudinal analysis.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.


Physical Requirements 

  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
  • Communication skills using the spoken word.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Ability to move about.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • One year related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with REDCap, EPIC, MyChart and OpenSpecimen and other databases is a plus.
  • Knowledge of COPD disease and asthma prevention and management desirable.
  • Knowledge of Python, Jupyter are helpful.
