We are seeking a Biostatistician. The Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease is a leading clinical and research center for preventive cardiology, with areas of excellence in clinical risk prediction, biomarker validation, and appropriate use assessment emphasizing subclinical atherosclerosis imaging, advanced lipidology, genetics, and digital health. Within the Ciccarone Center, the Women's Cardiovascular Health Research group focuses on research regarding female-specific factors across the life course and how these impact women's cardiovascular risk. Research topics include Cardio-Obstetrics (intersection of pregnancy and cardiovascular disease), polycystic ovary syndrome, menopause, and sex & gender differences in risk factors and cardiovascular outcomes, among other topics. We maintain several large datasets and work closely with the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC), and several of our own cross-sectional and prospective studies. We also utilize nationally available datasets such as the National Inpatient Sample and NHANES, and registry data such as from the Preeclampsia Foundation. Under the direction of Ciccarone Center Women's Health faculty, the Biostatistician will assist with,

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • study design.
  • collaborative development of statistical analysis plans.
  • data analysis.
  • interpretation and manuscript development.
  • grant development.
  • biweekly research meetings.
  • Emphasis will be on studies with great public health and clinical relevance, and the potential to change practice.
  • Strong skills in interpersonal communication, collaboration, scientific writing, and managing competing priorities are required.
  • Collaboration with faculty from the School of Public Health (Epidemiology and Biostatistics) on the development of novel methodology is expected. We encourage and expect mentoring of medical students, internal medicine residents, research fellows, and Masters level students in the development of their research careers.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Manage and analyze complex cross-sectional and longitudinal databases.
  • Preferable prior experience with large national datasets, including use of survey weights,
  • Analytics skills appropriate for cross-sectional, case-control, and prospective study design including analysis of randomized clinical trial data,
  • Skills in extracting, annotating, reformatting, and summarizing computer output for presentation to investigators,
  • Skills spanning a range of statistical and epidemiological methods (e.g., generalized linear mixed models, longitudinal data analysis, and survival analysis).
  • Skills in graphical representation of data.
  • Skills in writing abstracts, presentations, reports, and manuscripts for publishing in scientific journals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • One year related experience, including managing, cleaning, and merging large datasets (>5000 patients).
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Prior participation in several prior peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and other presentations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant experience with biostatistics software packages, including STATA (preferred), SAS, SPSS, and/or R.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
