Building Operations Manager - HSC
We are seeking a Building Operations Manager who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and facilities support for designated critical facilities. This person is the primary liaison for the Point of Contact (POC)’s for the designated critical facilities and lead coordinator with Johns Hopkins Facilities & Real Estate (JHFRE) for all facility needs, including service requests; facility support services (custodial and ground maintenance); facility maintenance (planning, scheduling and execution); facilities improvements and event support. This individual will follow any designated work processes established for the designated critical facilities, will provide recommendations, and will coordinate changes to the process as needed.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures all spaces within the designated critical facilities are fully functional, including overseeing maintenance, cleaning, and facility upgrades.
- Serves as liaison to JHFRE and Public Safety. Maintains the operability, readiness, security, and appearance of critical facilities.
- Meets regularly with POCs for the critical facilities to address building concerns, schedule work, discuss upcoming projects, and inform them of anything that may affect them.
- Works with JHFRE Facility Operations to ensure the entranceway, common area, and lobby maintain a professional appearance.
- Coordinates with occupants and JHFRE for all service requests, and facility improvements.
- Helps develop and direct Building Emergency Action plans and evacuation procedures.
- Maintains contact list for POCs of the designated critical facilities.
- Coordinates and oversees support for events in the critical facilities.
- Coordinates an escort and/or accompanies vendors/contractors throughout the critical facilities.
- Attends scheduled meetings with vendors/contractors and facilitates introductions with JHFRE and affected individuals/groups.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating office moves.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be computer literate and able to learn new software quickly.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and a diverse group of University customers.
- Prior experience in an academic setting and a college and/or Property Management is preferred.
Scope of Responsibility
- Knows the policies, procedures, and practices necessary to conduct the normal function of a specific section, unit, or work area. Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on the University.

- Carries out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision. Makes decisions and establishes work priorities on essentially procedure-oriented operations.
Authority
- Does not direct the activities of staff.
Communication
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to focus on problem resolution and crisis management.
- Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to comprehend and expend verbal and written directions.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Seven years of related experience in facility/building operations and customer service.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Physical Qualifications
- Ability to do considerable walking and prolonged standing for an entire shift.
- Ability to bend, squat, stoop, reach, and climb stairs.
- Lifting requirements of 50 lbs maximum.
- Stamina for exposure to various weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, etc.).
