Business Architect Analyst

IT@JH Office of the Deputy CIO is seeking a highly skilled, communicative and analytical Business Architect Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a significant role in facilitating our current and future state technology environments to support mission-critical initiatives across the institution. They will conduct analysis on business capabilities, mapping these institutional capabilities to existing IT systems and using this analysis to inform the design and implementation of future state architectures.


In addition, the Business Analyst will work on major initiatives and projects to help understand the requirements, document and optimize business flows, determine and articulate value, and evaluate opportunities to help the institution move to greater excellence.


This position requires a strong communicator with a deep understanding of university processes and a passion for driving organizational improvement through strategic analysis and planning.


This is a one-year contracted position.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Current State Architecture Documentation

  • Conduct thorough analysis and documentation of existing business processes and information systems across the university.
  • Map institutional capabilities to the current IT systems to create a comprehensive inventory of existing technologies and their use cases.


Capability Mapping

  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to identify key capabilities required to operate as a university.
  • Associate these capabilities with current and potential future IT solutions


Future State Planning

  • Develop and document future state architectures that align with the university’s vision and strategic objectives.
  • Analyze potential new applications and technologies to determine how they can be integrated into the university’s existing ecosystem.


Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with faculty, staff, and IT teams to gather requirements, validate assumptions, and ensure alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts and architectural plans to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and accessible manner.


Analysis and Reporting

  • Provide detailed analysis and reports on current and future state architectures, including gap analyses and recommendations for improvements.
  • Develop presentations and other communication materials to share findings with university leadership.


Continuous Improvement

  • Stay up to date with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends in higher education to continually refine and enhance the university’s architectural.

  • Ability to independently lead or facilitate meetings and perform as a team player in one or multiple agile/waterfall teams
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills; must have facilitated and guided users through requirements sessions with a combination of prototype and storytelling
  • Strong understanding of IT concepts, development life cycles and best practices
  • Effective in team setting or as individual contributor in an IT setting
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines independently.
  • In-depth understanding of university processes, including academic, administrative, and IT functions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business architecture, systems analysis or a related field, preferably within a higher education environment.
  • Proven track record of documenting current state architectures and developing future state plans.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and other higher education technologies.
  • Certifications such as Certified Business Architect (CBA).
  • Higher education experience is helpful but not required.

Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
