CO Licensed Practice Nurse

We are seeking a CO Licensed Practice Nurse who will offer friendly, courteous and confidential assistance to every participant to ensure that the participant has a positive experience while at the Institute of Clinical Translational Research. Displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team. Functions under the direct supervision of the charge nurse of the day and reports to the Nurse Manager. Demonstrates competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care. Demonstrates problem-solving skills as they relate to participant care activities.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collects patient information and assessment data.
  • Obtains and records patient’s vital signs: temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight & height in EPIC & completes study provided source documents.
  • Performs EKGs, blood collection, IV insertions & hangs IV fluids and IV piggyback medications.
  • Administer po (oral medications such as pills or cough syrup), Sub-Q (subcutaneous applied under the skin), IM (intramuscular or in the muscle), intradermal (under the skin such as a TB Test) medications.
  • Performs lab tasks, packaging, manual urine & pregnancy testing, glucose, hemoccult and urine collection.
  • Documents observations and findings in accordance with established protocols on time. Reports problems to the study team.
  • Performs study-specific procedures, interviews, data collection.
  • Monitors patient status recognizing and reporting abnormal findings or changes in condition to study team and records on appropriate documentation forms in a timely manner.
  • Participate in skills development and training through in-service programs and computer -based training modules.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Ability to use a keyboard and computer.


Physical Requirements 

  • Work requires reaching and grasping objects.
  • Lifting, pushing and carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Stooping and bending.
  • Walking and/or standing for extended periods of time.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with licensure as an LPN.
  • Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Maryland.
  • Completion of the JHU credentialing process to include verification of CPR certification is required prior to start date.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within research setting or at least one years of experience working in an acute care, skilled nursing or long- term care facility.

Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
