CO Nurse Practitioner

The Department of OB/GYN is seeking a Nurse Pracititioner to provide comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care to both ambulatory patients and inpatients.  The nurse practitioner educates and intervenes in the antepartum, intra partum, and postpartum continuum.  The nurse practitioner practices within the guidelines of the department, and the Institution in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner-Physician Written Agreement required and approved by the State of Maryland.  The nurse practitioner is granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and the Johns Hopkins Hospital; these privileges are renewed annually.  The nurse practitioner is responsible to the preceptor and department head for nursing standards and practice.


Specific duties & responsibilities:


CenteringPregnancy program:  The nurse practitioner provides obstetrical care in a group model.  The nurse practitioner plans, implements, and documents obstetrical care in the group setting.  Candidates with CenteringPregnancy training and experience are preferred.


Ob/Gyn Clinic-Provide urgent and non-urgent care to antepartum and postpartum patients through one on one patient visits or through the obstetrical centering model.  Cares for gynecologic patients seeking well-woman care or problem-focused gynecologic care (including abnormal bleeding, contraception, etc).  Order appropriate labs, ultrasounds and consults as needed.  Initiation of contraception for postpartum patients (IUD-insertion and removals, OCP, Depo-Provera, etc.)  Prefer candidates with experience performing endometrial and vulva biopsies. 


Postpartum-Evaluation, intervention, and care of postpartum patients.  Provide appropriate teaching, education, and information with postpartum care.  Alost assists with lactation and family planning.


Education-Serve as a resources and educator of medical and nursing students and residents.


Minimum qualifications:


Master's degree in nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHBMC credentialing process is required prior to start date.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
