Candidemia Surveillance Officer
The Maryland Active Bacterial Core Surveillance (MD ABCs) Program seeks a Candidemia Surveillance Officer with knowledge and expertise in infectious disease to coordinate Candidemia surveillance activities at Maryland health care facilities as part of the Maryland Emerging Infections (MD EIP)/Fungal Disease Program.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for all MD ABC’s Candidemia activities including Candidemia cases, pathogen and source identification, classification, isolate collection and shipment.
- Review of information submitted by hospitals and laboratories to identify cases, confirmation of case residency and pathogen source information, conducting reviews of patient charts, completing case report forms, and entering and maintaining case information in a database.
- Work closely with microbiology laboratories to identify, collect, and ship Candidemia isolates to the CDC.
- Responsible for interaction with project officials at CDC, responding to information requests from CDC, and preparing study reports, and will periodically conduct other surveillance program related activities and/or ad-hoc requests as needed.
Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be extremely detail oriented and able to completely and accurately identify and record information.
- Proficient in using computers and common software applications
- Must have exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, and excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Independent action, the ability to maintain several ongoing project activities at once, and the ability to build rapport with participating hospitals/laboratories.
- Individual must have a reliable form of transportation for travel and be willing to travel to healthcare facilities throughout Baltimore-Metropolitan and DC area.
- Knowledge of the identification and treatment of infectious disease and should have recent experience in infectious disease prevention/control; recent experience in conducting reviews of clinical charts is required.
This is a casual role, where anticipated hours weekly will not exceed 26 hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in a related discipline.
- Experienced in handling multiple tasks at once, able to work well independently as well as part of a team, and able to anticipate and identify problems and develop solutions.
- Experience with chart reviews.
- Experience with Access Databases and REDCap
- Excellent organizations skills and attention to detail.
- Highly developed verbal and written skills and interpersonal skills.
- Able to respond to varying demands and manage competing priorities.
- Independence, high attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to infectious disease identification and treatment.
- Three years of current experience in infectious disease surveillance, clinical trials or related experience required.
- Own form of transportation.
- Prior laboratory experience.
