Clark Scholars Program Manager

The Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a full-time Clarks Scholars Program Manager to assist the Director of the Clark Scholars Program, under the auspices of the Center for Leadership Education, in programmatic, academic, and financial administration of the Program.


The A. James & Alice B. Clark Scholars Program opens opportunities for promising, underrepresented students with financial need to attend quality university engineering programs, aligning with the Foundation’s mission of meeting effort with opportunity and enabling individuals and communities to thrive. The Johns Hopkins University program is distinguished by a world-class education rooted in a commitment to service, business acumen, innovation and leadership through program requirements such as Pre-Orientation, community service and service-based learning, seminars, global experiences, extracurricular enrichment, and alumni engagement. This cohort-based program engages undergraduate students in team-based engineering innovation and other customized projects that challenge them to develop solutions to real-world problems and involves them in specialized academic programming and service opportunities designed to develop them as future leaders. It is integrated with support for student success targeted toward meeting the needs of first-generation students and students from traditionally underserved communities.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Program Administration (35%)

  • Assist the Director of the Clark Scholars Program to ensure program alignment with the mission of the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation (Clark Foundation), Clark Scholars Program Network (CSPN), and WSE.
  • Devise and implement policies and procedures consistent with the JHU Clark Scholars program, the Whiting School of Engineering, and the Johns Hopkins University.
  • Manage the community service/service-learning pillar.
  • Maintain alumni database.
  • Coordinate high-impact learning experiences, such as undergraduate research, study abroad, internships, and service learning, in collaboration with key campus partners, including Oversight Committee, University Admissions, Life Design Lab, Financial Aid, Global Education, Student Life, Residential Life, Counseling & Psychological Services, LEED, Student Outreach & Support, and Office of Undergraduate Research.
  • Maintain Clark Scholar’s website and social media accounts; ensure alignment with university admissions website, university catalog, Clark Foundation, and CSPN.
  • Support Director in conducting Program evaluations and assessments.
  • Manage Clark Scholars course production, student registration, and graduation clearance.


Program Events & External Relations (30%)

  • Coordinate academic and social events, including Summer Orientation, semester kick-off events, cultural experiences, graduation, conferences and networking opportunities, and study abroad experiences (e.g., intersession and alternate spring break travel.)
  • Serve as a liaison with the Clark Foundation and CSPN; attend regional/national CSPN conferences and events.
  • Actively participate in meetings, including CSPN monthly meetings, LEED meetings, and UPAAC Subcommittee meetings.
  • Collaborate with Admissions Office to promote Clark Scholars program to prospective students.
  • Student Support & Engagement (20%)
  • Provide students with academic guidance in the absence of Director; handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Recognize and assist distressed students, offer support for academic concerns, and connect students with appropriate University resources.
  • Assist director with curriculum development.
  • Coordinate course guest speaker visits.
  • Administer Clark Scholars’ student Leadership Council.


Financial Management (15%)

  • Make purchases, process invoice payments, and reconcile expenditures, consistent with Clark Foundation/CSPN and University policies and procedures.
  • Assist Director with preparation of annual report by collecting and organizing data from campus partners (e.g., Financial Aid, Admissions, and Donor and Alumni Relations)
  • Manage hiring and payroll process for student employees and serve as first point of contact for student payroll issues.


Special Knowledge, Skill & Abilities

  • Ability to manage a high volume of work and multiple priorities.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Knowledge of both college and pre-college education in relation to curriculum design, instruction, assessment and professional development.
  • Experience managing academic program budgeting and purchasing.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, WordPress, SIS, Concur, and course production.
  • Strong multicultural competency and/or experience working with FLI (first-generation/limited income) students.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic program coordination and management.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in higher education, preferably with both academic advising and student affairs experience.

Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
