Clinical Dosimetry Supervisor

Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences is seeking a Clinical Dosimetry Supervisor  who will manage dosimetry team at select practice sites, including organizing daily activities, coverage, personnel, and staff training/development needs. The role reports to Chief of Medical Physics and Sr. Administrator and collaborates closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager and the Director of Radiation Therapy. 


The Clinical Dosimetry Supervisor will supervise a team of dosimetrists to create the highest quality radiation therapy treatment plans, will demonstrate leadership skills including the ability to oversee and coordinate dosimetry workflow, prioritize tasks, audit work quality, orient and train new staff dosimetrists with minimal direction. 


This role will provide necessary training and monitoring of clinical competencies, and  assure proper coverage and delegation of work to meet planning timelines. This position shall create and monitor key performance metrics, and offer mentorship to support staff growth. An effective communicator, this role will employ process improvement opportunities to refine the treatment planning process. This individual will partner with physicians and physicists in the department to refine or implement new treatment planning procedures and policies. The Clinical Dosimetry Supervisor (or designee) will participate in chart rounds and safety and quality meetings, and support a consistent treatment planning approach across all practice sites.


The Clinical Dosimetry Supervisor will support the department’s partnership with a dosimetry training school and medical physics residency rotations, ensuring appropriate oversight and compliance with program goals and timelines. This individual shall be a highly skilled dosimetrist, adeptly designing treatment plan, able to set normal tissue contours, and effective in communication with simulation team on immobilization and tumor localization set-up preferences. This role will supervise complex planning including Cyberknife, Tomotherapy, stereotactic body (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and brachytherapy in addition to planning on all disease sites.


This role will participate in continuing education in the area of current treatment planning techniques, and advances in medical dosimetry. Provide adequate support in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Current registration by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) as a board Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) AND a minimum of three (3) years of Dosimetry experience. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related science or equivalent experience.


Preferred Qualifications:          

  • Demonstrated experience with treatment planning in Pinnacle &/or RayStation, for various treatment modalities, including 3DCRT, IMRT, brachytherapy, IORT, Cyberknife, Tomotherapy and proton.

  • The department provides full radiation treatment services at 5 campuses in the Baltimore and Washington D.C region. The Baltimore region includes 6 Elekta Linacs, 1 Tomotherapy, 1 Cyberknife, 2 Flexitron HDR afterloaders and treatment planning is performed with Pinnacle (transitioning to Raystation), Accuray (Tomo and Cyberknife), and Oncentra planning systems. The Washington D.C. region includes a 3 Gantry Hitachi Proton, 4 Elekta Linacs, 1 Flexitron HDR afterloader and a Tomotherapy system with Raystation, Oncentra, and Pinnacle treatment planning systems in use.

Starting Salary Range: $95,645 - $131,495 annually (commensurate with experience)

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
