Communications Associate
The Department of Health Policy and Management seeks a Communications Associate who will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive tactical communications plan for the Hopkins Business of Health Initiative (HBHI), a Johns Hopkins University initiative, based out of the Department of Health Policy & Management, at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Through a scholarly focus on the role of business and incentives, HBHI aims to develop, nurture, translate and implement policies and practices for an accessible and trustworthy healthcare system for the nation that delivers value and affordability to society. The successful candidate will provide consultation and recommendations related to the development of communication media for major publications and/or significant initiatives/programs. In addition, they will be responsible for the writing and production of a wide variety of communication vehicles, including marketing and promotion materials and publications.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Generate and recommend original and creative approaches to communicate, market, and/or promote specific subject matter. Serve as subject matter expert in multiple communications vehicles.
- Write and edit multiple and varied publications, reports, web pages, grants, executive remarks, and news releases. Conduct interviews, research, and information gathering as appropriate.
- Manage production of materials, including selection and layout of artwork, graphics, pictures, and illustrations. May coordinate, direct, and review the work of communications staff, e.g., freelance writers, photographers, and production staff. May negotiate with vendors.
- Provide editorial oversight and review of communications vehicles for the area.
- Lead the day-to-day creation and management of marketing plans, media, web, and public relations strategies by working with the broader marketing and communications department.
- Serve as the main day-to-day contact with vendor agencies as needed.
- Lead the development and execution of all acquisition and retention marketing strategies and plans including media planning and buying efforts with an external agency across all digital and traditional media, marketing events, and partnership marketing opportunities.
- Lead engagement / relationship management strategies, leveraging direct marketing tools (e.g., email/Salesforce and other CRM tools) to drive results In partnership with the Social Media Manager and the Web Associate, utilize and optimize SEO/SEM, email campaigns, user experience, digital advertising, promotions, and social media, etc. to build brand/program awareness, generate leads and engagement with participants.
- Measure and analyze campaign data and make adjustments to continue to drive ROI.
- Develop creative briefs to ensure all marketing materials and program messaging are created and accurate.
- Drive implementation of best practices through all paid/unpaid channels.
- Organize marketing promotional events as needed and ensure prompt delivery of materials and merchandise Ensure brand consistency across all marketing activities (e.g. website, emails, social media, events, flyers, etc.).
- Lead the corresponding website strategy and needs including management of associated vendor(s). Fully understand competitive landscape, monitor, report and provide marketing insights.
- Analyze marketing plan and performance using KPI’s, ROI analysis and apply learning in new planning. Manage forecasts and budgeting of marketing budget.
- Collaborate closely with their marketing peers to share learnings and to help cross-promote programs as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related field.
- Four years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
