Consultant
The Pava Center for Entrepreneurship is Johns Hopkins' hub for student entrepreneurship and innovation. We work with undergrads to post-docs, helping early-stage companies build the teams of tomorrow, launch innovative products and services, and expand opportunities for all.
We are seeking a Consultant with strategic advisory experience and skill to work with various student ventures.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide consulting expertise to various student-led ventures, advising on areas such as financial modeling, customer discovery, go-to-market strategies, pitch deck optimization, and prototyping assistance.
- Work closely with entrepreneurial teams ranging from undergraduates to postdocs to support the development of innovative products and services.
- Participate in both in-person and hybrid programming, including events and consultations held during evenings and weekends.
- Share relevant knowledge and support ventures with access to tools like makerspaces to assist in prototyping and scaling.
- Analyze complex and technical details of student business challenges to provide actionable strategies and priorities.
- Assist ventures in preparing and refining business documents, such as pitch decks, financial projections, and strategic plans.
- Maintain a collaborative, motivated work ethic while demonstrating the ability to work independently and uphold strict confidentiality standards.
- Efficiently manage time to meet deadlines in a dynamic, student-driven entrepreneurial environment, ensuring priorities are addressed and solutions achieved.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, with experience in or knowledge of venture creation, innovation, and business development.
- Ability to evaluate complex business challenges and develop actionable strategies tailored to early-stage ventures.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and budget planning to support student ventures in assessing their business viability.
- Familiarity with customer discovery methodologies, including user research, market segmentation, and validation of product-market fit.
- Experience in building and advising on product launch plans, branding strategy, and customer acquisition techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver compelling presentations, such as pitch decks.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, engaging with diverse stakeholders across various fields of expertise.
- Capability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively, particularly in a fast-paced and flexible environment.
- Agility to navigate dynamic challenges and provide creative, tailored solutions to unique entrepreneurial problems.
- Capacity to understand and absorb complex technical details, translating them into actionable business strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and uphold ethical standards in all interactions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- One year of directly related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
