Core Facility Technologist, CPC

We are seeking a Core Facility Technologist (CPC) to work under the Central Processing Core Supervisor and/or Operations Director. With supervision, the Core Facility Technologist (CPC) performs core facility tasks and completes routine clinical research specimen procurement, processing, and shipping, following Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) procedures in a non-research, central services core facility that supports clinical research.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform core facility tasks by following core procedures or with instruction.
  • Uses basic clinical research knowledge to learn techniques/methods of the core facility.
  • Gain problem solving skills through progressive training, understanding of the core facility activities, of clinical research, and experience.
  • Gain experience with specimen procurement, processing, and shipping.
  • Identify and resolves common problems involved in core facility services.
  • Understands the role of senior lab members and accepts constructive guidance.
  • Increases own skill base and knowledge of clinical research and relevant core facility services.
  • Train users in standard equipment operation and routine core facility techniques and procedures.
  • Perform specimen procurement/transport, processing, transfers, and shipping based on core facility procedures and study-specific instructions (SCI).
  • Completes specimen documentation and specimen data entry into databases.
  • Prepare, qualify, and maintain standard laboratory equipment and log-sheets.
  • Perform related laboratory maintenance, monitoring inventory of supplies, cleaning equipment.
  • Helps organize and maintain the freezer inventory.
  • Assists in query investigation and resolution.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CPC Supervisor and/or Operations Director.
  • Required to work on a rotating shift as assigned by management.
  • Knows the informal policies, procedures and practices necessary to conduct the normal function of a specific section, unit, or work area.
  • Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on the working unit.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent or AA degree with some science coursework and laboratory experience performing relevant techniques may substitute for education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. 


Preferred Qualifications
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience.
  • Certificate from technical institute or internship experience.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
