Core Services Specialist - Fin

 

 

Coordinate insurance clearance process by completing Financial Clearance for scheduled and non-scheduled patient appointments.  The Financial Clearance process includes but is not limited to: insurance verification, obtaining referrals and authorizations, obtaining single case agreements, communicating pertinent information to the patient and referring physician, documenting all appropriate systems for benefit explanation for outpatient services.  Serve as liaison between the physician, insurance company and patient to ensure all services are financially cleared prior to the date of service for follow-up patients and prior to scheduling of new patient visits.

 

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Obtain benefits information to ensure maximum reimbursement for all services rendered within the Genetic visit. 
  • This includes physician consult, genetic counseling and special genetic laboratory services. 
  • This position also requires obtaining benefits and authorizations for ‘carve out services’ that may be rendered within Johns Hopkins Health System. 
  • Review of all received referrals and authorizations to ensure that the document meets all requirements to ensure reimbursements of services. 
  • Coordinate with the Managed Care department to obtain required ‘single case agreements’ for all out-of-network carriers and out-of-state Medicaid programs. 
  • Maintain communication with patients and Clinic Supervisor any and all obstacles in obtaining timely financial clearance.
  • Documentation of clearance notes into all appropriate systems and notification to clinic staff all special insurance concerns. 
  • Utilize scanning software to document received/approved referrals and authorizations for review by various clinical staff /billing.
  • Clearly communicate verbally with insurance carriers benefit inquiries. 
  • Utilize web-sites to obtain benefit of services if applicable data is available.
  • Prior experience will enable knowledge to understand verbiage for interpreting insurance benefits in a clear precise manner to physicians and clinical staff. 
  • Follow all compliance and billing protocols to ensure maximized reimbursement of all services rendered.
  • Assist in the coordination of day to day clinical operations. 
  • Coordination of pre and post ancillary appointments and tracking compliance is also required. 
  • Utilize automated system (EPIC) to schedule new and follow-up patient’s visits. 
  • Provide back-up coverage as coordinator for physicians during assigned clinic dates. 
  • Assist with re-scheduling patients from cancelled clinic dates. 
  • Assist with all clinical office practices as assigned. 
  • Ability to operate a PC with general knowledge of MS Office and EPIC system.
  • Financial clearance for all outpatient services requested.
  • Scheduling and coordination of clinics.
  • Complete clinical post assignments (i.e. billing, follow-up/no show letters, etc.).
  • Verbal and written communication.
  • Phone coverage.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • High School/GED required.
  • One (1) year related medical office, hospital or insurance/ billing experience. 
  • Additional education may substitute for experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

 

JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Some college preferred.

 

 

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 

  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication, professional telephone manner, interviewing and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, members of the health care team and external agencies. 
  • This includes the ability to deal effectively with angry and/or upset customers.  
  • Requires the ability to work with diverse populations.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
