Data Analyst

Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a modified hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 2 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Data Quality, the Data Quality Analyst performs a variety of data processing, review, and maintenance activity to support development efforts for the Johns Hopkins Institutions. Additionally, the data quality analyst researches and reports on the status of critical data related to institutional donors and other constituents, and completes tasks related to development data quality initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
Mass Data Processing Activities (30%):
- Oversees compliance of data flows against data quality standards.
- Evaluates incoming constituent biographic and demographic data against existing system data and manually merges data onto existing constituent records if determined to be a match or creates a new constituent record to store data if new to database.
- Resolves data discrepancies on incoming data to maintain quality and validity.
- Observes trends in imported data discrepancies or technical system errors and flags for supervisor review and possible refinement of source data and integration algorithms.
- Monitors various data sources and reports to prioritize and expedite incorporation into the database.
- Conducts mass data loads by reformatting customer provided data to match database structure.
- Documents and reports to the Associate Director on status of data processing projects/goals.
Data Quality Maintenance (30%):
- Initiates and responds to inquiries (oral and written) from divisional staff, business offices, and other institutional parties regarding biographic and demographic data edits, additions, and deletions.
- Observes patterns in requests from divisional staff, business offices, and other institutional parties and alerts manager and/or suggests root cause analyses, customer communications, ticket request forms adjustments, and any other changes to streamline meeting the business needs.
- Creates and maintains biographical, contact, employment/organizational relationship data for constituents, as well as other supporting data through filing, retrieval, retention, storage, compilation, coding, updating, and purging.
- Completes any activity required to support the development data quality goals and initiatives.
- Maintain reports that detail progress of targeted maintenance activities and projects.
Measurement and Analysis (25%):
- Monitors reports and metrics of established data quality and customer data requests and reports on status to supervisor.
- Observes trends in data and make recommendations to Associate Director, Data Quality.
- Creates reports as needed to analyze scope of observed data quality issues.
- Maintains and builds data quality dashboards in CRM to meet business needs of DAR.
- Uses various software applications and databases to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
Knowledge Management (10%):
- Aids in developing policy and procedure documentation for various data quality operations.
- Creates templates for customers to provide data updates to streamline system import.
- Refines customer facing webpages and request forms within DAR to support awareness of data quality efforts and streamline addressing of data quality concerns.
Additional Position Requirements (5%):
- Supervises staff and/or operations (work delegation/assignment) in manager’s absence.
- Acts as user acceptance test participant in the enhancement of Development software products.
- Assists immediate supervisor in cross-training and new employee orientation within the area.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Three years of related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience preferred in collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, identifying and solving problems.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel).
- Knowledge of database structures and ability to use multiple information systems and software.
- Experience working in a CRM database (Salesforce preferred).
- Familiarity with SOQL.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytic, planning, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects or responsibilities.
- Ability to transform raw data into meaningful information for business and analysis purposes.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and make decisions within established procedures.
