Data Analytics Manager

We are seeking a Data Analytics Manager who will create and execute approaches for using quantitative data and methods to understand and review complex issues and business needs of the assigned area. This position has a strong knowledge in analytics, is proficient in a general programming language (like Python) or a statistical package (R) and has an appetite for engaging in non-quantitative aspects of the innovation process.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies for using quantitative data and methods to understand complex business issues.
  • Shape and conduct approaches for collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, including methods for creating new data (e.g. through surveys) when there is limited or no data.
  • Employ diverse quantitative methodologies and software packages, including data validation, joining of diverse datasets, historical/trend analysis, comparative/cross-sectional analysis, GIS mapping, regression analysis, etc.
  • Invent and quickly iterate novel solutions to challenging data-related problems.
  • Create and manage project plans for the quantitative data components of all teamwork.
  • Develop and manage partnerships and collaborations with data providers and stakeholders.
  • Champion the use of quantitative data to drive decisions.
  • Produce compelling and intuitive data visualizations to drive comprehension of complex topics and concepts across a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Communicate data analysis so that information and findings are accessible to a non-technical audience, including through dashboard tools like Tableau or Microsoft Power BI.
  • Develop metrics and measurement systems to measure the impact of the team’s projects and initiatives.
  • Connect data insights to research and collaborate with team members to conduct research sessions including focus groups, interviews, and user testing.
  • Support analogous research and literature reviews.
  • Serve as a key participant in each step of the area’s data methodology, providing a quantitative perspective to all projects.
  • Serve as a lead for the data analytics team.
  • May have several Data Analysts as direct reports.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.


Additional Information

  • This position is to support research on reproductive health, maternal and infant outcomes, and health policy. This position is ideal for candidates with strong quantitative and epidemiologic skills who are interested in applying data science to pressing public health issues. The role will involve managing, cleaning, and analyzing large administrative and claims datasets, supporting and leading statistical analyses, drafting manuscripts for publication, and providing broader research support as needed. The Data Analytics Manager will need to,
  • Clean, manage, and analyze large, complex datasets using statistical software (e.g., Stata, R).
  • Contribute to study design, data interpretation, and statistical modeling.
  • Draft and edit manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate with research teams across institutions and disciplines.
  • Provide mentorship to graduate students and research assistants, as needed.
  • Minimal travel may be expected for conferences or collaborative meetings.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Seven years of experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in epidemiology, demography, or related field.
  • 5 or more years experience supporting or leading research on related topics.
  • Content area expertise in reproductive and perinatal epidemiology.
  • Extensive experience working with claims data and vital statistics data.
  • Strong publication record.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
