The Database Specialist will be responsible for management of complex data from multiples longitudinal and cross-sectional studies.  The Database Specialist will have oversight of other JHU staff and act as the primary contact for multiple studies in regard to data issues. This person should be an inquisitive self-starter with the ability to learn new technologies in a reasonable amount of time.

 

Specific duties & responsibilities:

  • The Database Specialist will be responsible for management of complex data from multiples studies.  The candidate will program data, write data documentation, and fulfill data requests from researchers. This person should be an inquisitive self-starter with the ability to learn new technologies in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities: Design, maintenance, and monitoring of a comprehensive participant tracking database and project specific databases.  Design surveys used for participant interviewing. Monitor the functionality of interviewing computers. Hire, train, and supervise students to perform quality assurance of survey data. Develop and review quality assurance reports and document necessary data corrections.
  • Prepare longitudinal and cross-sectional survey data for analyses including cross checking data with other databases, making data corrections, making construct variables, and combining several datasets. Document data collection concerns and provide assistance to researchers as needed. Maintain monthly reports showing enrollment figures, follow-up numbers, and datasets that are available for distribution.  Meet with study investigators biweekly to discuss data priorities.
  • Distribute data to internal and external analysts documenting each distribution in a database. Maintain cloud storage for sharing data and other files.  Oversee new computer set up and submit help desk tickets for existing computers as needed; submit help tickets to add users and grant permissions to file server.  Assist investigators with data analysis and data reporting.  

 

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED and two years related work experience required. Additional education may substitute for experience.


Preferred:

Bachelor's in a related discipline.  Flluency in QDS, Qualtrics, and MS Access, coding and analysis using SPSS for Database Specialist and basic statistical analyses desired.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
