Dental Clinic Supervisor

The department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Dental Clinic Supervisor who will supervise the day-to-day operations of a multi-faceted dental office to ensure a smoothly functioning office and good patient relations and excellent customer service. Provide leadership and guidance to dental assistants and Hygienist in order to facilitate quality patient care. Work with Healthcare Providers and Administrators to establish and interpret policies and procedures. Demonstrate independent judgment in resolution of administrative and patient related issues. Intervene as necessary on issues relating to patient complaints, healthcare providers’ concerns and operational issues, by taking measures to correct situations and/or ensure involvement

of appropriate personnel. Create, establish and manage internal office protocols and procedures to ensure clinic efficiency. Works under the direction of Assistant Administrator of Finance.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the supervision and providing leadership to the Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienist within the dental clinic.
  • Oversees and assures smooth day-to-day operations of the dental clinic and procedure rooms including patient flow and delivery of patient care.
  • Participates and advises in personnel matters relating to the dental staff including recruiting and selection; new hire orientation; monitor attendance; staffing plan; counseling and discipline, in-service training; performance evaluations and arranges regular staff meetings.
  • Ensure treatment rooms are properly maintained – clean, organized, supplies consistently replenished, proper disposal of “sharps” needle container according to established safety standards.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment in accordance with hygiene and safety regulations including OSHA.
  • Organize and oversee supply purchases, equipment upgrades and operations expenses.
  • Resolve patient issues in accordance with policies and procedures and healthcare regulations.
  • Support marketing and promotion initiatives.
  • Run and analyze management utilization reports.
  • Assists Dental Providers in developing and maintaining Quality Assurance program as assigned including patient x-ray log, sterile cycle log, work orders and inventory control log according to functional unit’s established standards.
  • Meets regularly with the Dental Providers to present clinic staff ideas and concerns.
  • Maintain current records of staff dental certification, x-ray, and CPR license.
  • Serve as dental assistant on an as needed basis.
  • Manages and purchases dental supplies and maintains dental budget. Interacts with vendors.
  • Assures accurate and timely submission of Dental Assistant evaluations and other Dental Department reports as required.
  • Evaluates stock levels of supplies and oversees repair or replacement of dental equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Four years related experience, including previous lead or supervisory experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of dental assisting, plus one-year relevant work experience.
  • Eligible to complete dental assisting certification within a designated period of time.
  • Current certification in dental radiography.
  • Additional education may substitute for up to one year of required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Supervisory experience in a medical facility preferred.

Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
