Development Coordinator, Women & Children’s Health

Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’ focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine; strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.


Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.


The Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine (FJHM) is the dedicated development and alumni relations team supporting the entities that comprise Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), including clinical departments, hospitals, satellite clinics, and the School of Medicine. We contribute to Johns Hopkins Medicine’s mission of patient care, research, and education through securing philanthropy, building and maintaining donor and alumni relationships, and supporting institutional priorities. FJHM partners closely with institutional leaders, faculty, and clinicians to engage alumni, patients, donors, and prospects in JHM’s work to advance medicine and improve the human condition.


The Development Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative/office management support to the Executive Director of Development and other team members in the Women’s and Children’s Health Office of Development to help ensure that donor relations and the overall efficiency of office procedures and events flow smoothly. This individual in this role must exercise independent judgment in the resolution of administrative challenges, project management, and budget reconciliation. The Development Coordinator will coordinate travel arrangements, manage electronic calendars, enter fundraising information in the in JHAS, and run reports, as well as assist with special events. The position is the first respondent to phone inquiries on the general office phone number, performs general office duties such as photocopying, filing, distributing information, and similar duties as assigned. The high number of donors, the fast pace of the office, and complexity of many gifts require a high level of independent thinking, attention to detail, flexibility, advanced computer skills, and excellent interpersonal communication.


Key responsibilities: 

  • Work independently on projects assigned by the executive director and administrative supervisor for the office’s major gifts and annual giving efforts. Determine priorities and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality;
  • Maintain expertise of JHAS (Development’s internal donor tracking database) as well as a thorough understanding of central clearance and development research protocols to research donor records, request prospect clearance, and request research. Research and gather information, and present it in a concise, understandable format;
  • Utilize JHAS to run reports, graphs, tables, records, and other sources of information. Track donor giving history as needed;
  • Manage meetings and appointments for the Executive Director of Development; Assist with planning and scheduling meetings for five major gift officers;
  • Schedule team meetings and retreats, creating agendas, and recording meeting minutes;
  • Coordinate visit- and trip-prep and follow-up for Executive Director and gift officers;
  • Coordinate the timely entry of donor and prospect information into JHAS and its Relationship Management module in order to help prioritize donor actions and achieve fund raising goals;
  • Draft office communication and prepare for signature. Proofread and edit confidential and sensitive information;
  • Assist with the organization and management of divisional solicitation mailings;
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and staffing of events, such as professorship dedications, portrait unveilings, endowed lectureships, alumni receptions, ceremonies, and other events;
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail processes;
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with donors, alumni, patients, guests, departmental and institutional leaders, faculty, administrative personnel; and colleagues over the telephone, on Zoom, and in person.






Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent
  • Three years related administrative experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing, editorial and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work in a varied and fast-paced office setting.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
