Director, Student Recruitment & Family Engagement

Founded in 1979, the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) is a center for innovation dedicated to advancing the field of gifted education through research on testing, programs, and other supports for advanced learners. On the premise that advanced learners come from every community and every demographic, we aim to understand and inform how these students need to be nurtured to achieve their full potential as learners and global citizens. CTY also runs in-person and online academic programs for bright learners in order to cultivate a community of advanced learners and connect students in and outside the classroom.


We are seeking a collaborative, energetic and forward-thinking leader to serve as the Director, Student Recruitment & Family Engagement. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Enrollment Management, the Director will oversee strategic planning and management related to initiatives that drive awareness of CTY offerings, student enrollment and success. The Director of Student Recruitment & Family Engagement is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive recruitment strategies to drive awareness of CTY opportunities and attract a diverse pool of prospective students to CTY. This role requires a dynamic and results-driven individual with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of enrollment management, and a passion for student success.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Recruitment Strategy Development

  • Develop and implement strategic recruitment plans to meet virtual and site-based enrollment and revenue targets.
  • Identify target markets and segments and devise targeted outreach and awareness campaigns to reach prospective students.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the Enrollment Management unit, marketing, and academic departments to align recruitment efforts with institutional goals and priorities.
  • Promote initiatives to achieve diversity, equity, inclusion and justice goals in terms of the recruitment and retention of students.


Outreach and Relationship Building

  • Build relationships with schools, gifted associations and other organizations to generate awareness, leads and referrals.
  • Represent the institution at fairs, conferences, and other recruitment events to promote programs and opportunities.


Admissions Support

  • Provide guidance and support to prospective students throughout the enrollment process, including course selection, application submission, document submission, and financial aid application.
  • Collaborate with admissions to ensure a seamless transition from recruitment to enrollment for admitted students.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and workshops to educate prospective students and their families about the institution’s programs, services, and opportunities.


Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Collect and analyze recruitment data to assess the effectiveness of recruitment strategies and tactics.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to recruitment, such as inquiry volume, application volume, and yield rates.
  • Generate regular reports and presentations to communicate recruitment outcomes and insights to stakeholders.


Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of recruitment and customer engagement staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to ensure the success and growth of team members.
  • Participate in professional associations. Remain current with issues in the field through self-directed reading and the development of professional contact with others


Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position directly manages 3 professional staff.


Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Marketing, Business Administration, Education, or related field.
    • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in student recruitment, business development, consultative sales, admissions, or related field.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of managing teams and achieving recruitment goals.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire prospective students, families, and stakeholders.
    • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute data-driven recruitment strategies.
    • Knowledge of enrollment management principles, best practices, and trends in higher education.
    • Experience with CRM systems, student information systems, and other recruitment technology tools.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • At least 5 years of CRM experience (Salesforce preferred), territory management, and budget management required.
    • Knowledge of current and emerging advanced learner trends and best practices preferred.

    Total Rewards
    The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications.     Education and Experience Equivalency
    Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

    The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
