The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for direct outreach and engagement of alumni of the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY). The purpose of these activities is to help ensure frequent alumni interactions with the organization to support the growth and future success of CTY. 


The primary duties and responsibilities of the job: 

 

Alumni Relations (50%)

  • Refine and implement CTY’s strategies for engaging and building a strong and active alumni community, primarily through social media initiatives. Explore and identify ways to integrate social media into business strategies and marketing campaigns.
  • Lead CTY’s online alumni communities and social networks by monitoring forums and membership and staying up to date on new methods and evolving technologies to create a high level of engagement with CTY alumni.
  • Develop and maintain alumni program initiatives (such as CTY alumni speakers’ panels, alumni chapter events, etc.), and continue to facilitate and manage CTY’s annual Distinguished Alumni Awards.
  • Develop annual and multi-year strategic plans for alumni engagement; create appropriate goals, timetables, gift tables, and participation targets.
  • Define key performance indicators and implement enterprise level measurement, analytics, and reporting methods to gauge success.
  • Increase alumni participation/engagement, including engagement of CTY young alumni.
  • Grow regional alumni presence.
  • Schedule and arrange summer site visits and/or other engagement opportunities with prospective and current donors.
  • Manage quarterly newsletters and other aspects of alumni communications.
  • Manage CTY Family Trips.

 

Fundraising (50%)

  • Portfolio management and growth.
    • Develop a strategy to grow alumni giving. Increase the number of alumni who donate to CTY.
    • Manage a portfolio of prospects. Achieve individual work plan goals as established in conjunction with the Sr. Director for Development and Alumni Relations.
  • Liaison to the Office of Annual Giving
    • Work with the Office of Annual Giving to develop and execute an annual giving plan for CTY. Communicate key fundraising initiatives.
    • Manage special online/crowdsourcing fundraisers.
    • Assist with planning and implementation of Pi Day, CTY’s annual day of giving

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of three years of related experience required. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in alumni relations, student affairs, social media engagement, event production and management, fundraising, volunteer management or donor relations preferred. 
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively;
  • Ability to make independent decisions, and the discernment to know when independence is warranted
  • Ability to work as part of an effective team with a results-oriented approach.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new development computer software systems.
  • May include hours outside of normal working hours and on the weekend.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
