Software Engineer

IT@JH Enterprise Business Solutions (EBS) is seeking a Software Engineer who is responsible for the creation, implementation, maintenance, performance, production support and documentation of various departmental and enterprise-wide application systems. This includes but is not limited to the installation, modification, and testing of new and/or upgraded applications (packages or home grown), operating systems, file structures, hardware, communication devices, and productivity tools.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Applies analysis techniques and procedures to gather and then translate business requirements into functional/technical specifications and designs. Using functional specifications and designs, produces all or part of the deliverables. Maintains databases and application system code.
  • Position collaborates with other EBS team’s ERP Business Analysts, JH IT groups and occasionally university and health systems business users in developing new solutions, enhancements, maintenance, and break/fix support activities. Works with some supervision and direction, in an agile team-based methodology. Works in a highly complex 70+ server environment supporting Johns Hopkins Enterprise Employee Resource Planning (ERP) solutions.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must have 4 years of prior experience with each of the following SAP development skills:
    • Requirements gathering and analysis; Object Oriented ABAP development
    • Web based design and development skills: FIORI or WebDynpro
    • Troubleshooting and problem resolution
    • Database modification (SAP Data Dictionary)
  • Must have 3 years of prior experience with the following SAP development skill:
    • Performance analysis and tuning
  • Must have prior experience with each of the following SAP development skills:
    • 1 full lifecycle SAP implementations
    • SAP Upgrade or Enhancement Package/Support Stack Application (SPDD/SPAU)




Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

*JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
