Community Programs Specialist

We are seeking a Community Programs Specialist  who will work in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Strategic Partnerships and will focus on building new and maintaining existing relationships with gifted associations, parent ambassadors, community organizations and other strategic partners to increase identification of new students.



This position would best fit a marketing, sales, communications, journalist, public relations, business candidate, with same education and background, preferably in an academic environment. This position is not an educational, instructional, classroom platform.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate relationships across diverse communities to increase awareness of CTY programs and resources.
  • Collaborate with assistant director and director to engage parent ambassadors and increase number of formal organizational partnerships leading to increased new student enrollment.
  • Represent CTY at conferences and events to promote partnerships aligned with CTY goals and mission.
  • Drive demand and growth of new strategic partners leading to direct and indirect new student enrollment.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of evaluation tools to gauge outcomes of targeted recruitment tactics.
  • Conduct virtual and in-person CTY presentations to prospective partners.
  • Build, maintain, and strengthen a support network of internal and external partners to assist in meeting assigned recruitment and partnership goals.
  • Serve as the first line of contact for incoming calls, email, and written inquiries from parent ambassadors, and strategic partners to provide information on CTY programs, eligibility, training, policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and report enrollment conversion of students from targeted organizations.
  • Implement outgoing communications related to the application and enrollment process, as outlined by the Assistant Director and Director.
  • Utilize information collection platforms to gather leads during workshops and presentations.
  • Ensure information sharing is in accordance to FERPA, organizational and university policy.
  • Ensure that responsibilities are performed in alignment with CTY mission statement and current organizational objectives
  • Conducts special projects and other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Three years of related experience required.
  • Proficiency in CRM solutions.

Special Knowledge. Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to work competently with Microsoft office 365 and other desktop applications.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to support multiple projects under potentially conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, and manage interpersonal situations.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated intercultural communication and presentation skills.


Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse pad and other office machinery.
  • The incumbent will be required to communicate regularly via telephone and face to face with internal and external customers and must be able to exchange accurate and timely information in these settings.
  • Position also requires a degree of mobility common to working in an office environment; bending, kneeling or standing during events and presentations may be required.


Additional Information

  • Position requires up to 15% travel.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US, and must either live in the US or another area in which JHU has a business entity.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
