Electrical Engineering Assistant

General summary/purpose:

 Implement circuit designs.

 Facilitate the design and construction of prototypes of devices for the ongoing research

The successful candidate will be given design parameters for electronic circuits used for filtering, amplification, and pulse generation. These specifications will be implemented in circuits using computer-aided design software which can be Multisim or a similar circuit design package. Once the circuits are designed, the printed circuit boards will be implemented.

The successful candidate will also help with the wiring and validation of electronic equipment used for electrophysiology procedures. This will consist of developing pin out diagrams, constructing cables, testing cables, and end to end testing of the overall wiring.

Knows the informal policies, procedures, and practices necessary to conduct the normal function of a specific section, unit, or work area.  Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on the working unit.

Exchanges routine information in an appropriate manner requiring good oral and written communication skills.

 

Education / Experience:

Required: High School Diploma/GED. Coursework in Electrical Engineering at the undergraduate level.  

 

Experience: 

Able to work under guidance on designing and constructing prototypes of electronic circuits to meet the needs of the research group.

Has working knowledge of NI Multisim and Ultiboard

Proficient in: Assembly Language, C++, Matlab, MPLAB.X IDE, Proteus, Multisim, LabView, Simulink, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Simatic7 and Zelio.

Ability to communicate and collaborate with non-engineers.

Able to use: Oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, circuit assembly, troubleshooting

Starting Salary Range: $14.40-$15.64 (commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Casual (summer only)

Employee subgroup: Non-Exempt

Schedule: Working 40 hours per week; Monday-Friday

Location:  Johns Hopkins East Baltimore Campus

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
