Assistant Director of Financial Aid

 

FINANCIAL AID ADMINISTRATION 

  • Maintain a current comprehensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and monitor compliance with all requirements.
  • Evaluate aid applications for prospective and returning undergraduates as well as full and part-time graduate student populations to determine aid eligibility using federal and institutional methodologies, exercising professional judgment when necessary.
  • Support Peabody’s recruitment efforts through full and active participation in the financial aid appeals process; assess student financial needs and make informed recommendations to the Enrollment Management Committee Daily contact with students and families via phone, email and in-person.
  • Counsel students and families in all aspects of financial aid for student caseload.
  • Prepare and present financial aid sessions/workshops to high schools and other organizations upon request.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and update all content on the Peabody Financial Aid Office website.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual reports and financial aid surveys by gathering relevant information and compiling data.
  • Assist with reconciliation of scheduled reports to ensure timely delivery of financial aid to students and compliance with Federal Title IV regulations; comprehensive knowledge of Federal verification, Direct loan processing, and Return to Title IV. frequent communication with campus administrative departments (Admissions, Registrar, Student Accounts, and Student Employment) and academic departments.
  • Perform financial aid processing (including but not limited to Verification, C-flags, Loan Processing, Reconciliation, and Return to Title IV Refunds) in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards established by the Director of University Financial Aid Operations in JHU’s financial aid shared service center.
  • In consultation with the Director of Financial Aid, the Assistant Director position has direct authority to make financial aid commitments to the student population on behalf of the University.
  • Provide comprehensive oversight and management of the Campus Based Programs (Federal Work-Study & FSEOG) , including reconciliation.
  • Determine student eligibility for Federal Title IV aid through needs analysis and within consideration of regulatory compliance.
  • Manage transfer student monitoring process with the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).
  • Manage the import/export of data through financial aid applications including COD, ED Connect,  NSLDS and ELM, and troubleshoot errors.
  • Serve in place of the Director of Financial Aid when necessary.
  • Serve as the financial aid liaison to other campus departments and committees as determined by the Director.
  • Represent Peabody on the Financial Aid Systems User Group, Information Technology Services Advisory Committee.
  • Serve as functional lead for the PowerFAIDS database, working with the IT staff to oversee all testing, training, annual system set-up and maintenance, adhering to standards and guidelines prepared by the University Compliance and Shared Services Financial Aid Team.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

  
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • One year of related experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong student based counseling experience.
  • The successful candidate will have proven leadership skills, knowledge of highly selective college or university settings where some form of institutional methodology is practiced, and familiarity with the stewardship and support of scholarship programs. 
  • S/he must be committed to the principles of access and diversity, providing the best customer service and student support experience to families, and thrive in fast paced environment where expectations for performance and productivity are high.
  • The position requires an individual with a good eye for detail, outstanding communication skills, and a strong work ethic.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Power FAIDS user experience strongly preferred.
  • Five or more year’s direct experience managing federal, state, institutional & private aid programs within a college or university setting preferred.

  • Must have detailed knowledge of Federal, State and Institutional Financial aid regulations.
  • Previous experience managing/stewarding scholarship programs.
  • Ability to follow-through with policy and procedural implementations and affect beneficial change at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing and recommending significant improvements in departmental operations.
  • Strong conceptual, logical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to partner cross-functionally with other departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and meet objectives within limited time frames and under tight deadlines.
  • Candidates must possess unquestioned personal and professional ethical standards.
  • Highly valued are innovative thinking, technological vision, and ability to work collaboratively.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

 

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
