IT Project Manager

The Project Manager will be responsible for project management of the implementation of technology solutions that support informatics initiatives in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR). This individual will participate in strategic planning and tactical execution of clinical research technology initiatives; facilitate communications between entities within the Johns Hopkins Institutions as they relate to the use of technologies to support clinical research; facilitate communications and projects with colleagues outside of Johns Hopkins; and coordinate the work of teams of IT and non-IT professionals. The Project Manager reports to the IT Senior Manager for the Center for Clinical Data Analysis.

 

The Project Manager will execute project management processes and methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on-time and within the budget, adhere to high quality standards, and delight the customer. This individual will be responsible for assembling project plans, team and work assignments, directing and monitoring work efforts on a daily basis, identifying resource needs, performing quality review, and escalating functional, quality and timeline issues appropriately. The project manager will also be responsible for managing customer relationships and issuing invoices for fee-for-service projects.  Project resources may be drawn from shared pools within and outside the central IT organization; coordination of resources may be required with other managers. Building and maintaining strong, trusted customer and vendor relationships are critical. Candidates will have experience presenting to executives, end-users (faculty and staff), and subject-matter experts. Candidate must possess excellent negotiation, facilitation, consensus-building, and diplomacy skills and will exhibit a strong customer service orientation. Candidate will be expected to stay current with a constantly changing technology and vendor landscape. This individual will serve as a knowledgeable liaison between the functional and technical communities. 

 

 

Qualifications

Bachelor degree required and five (5) years of experience in delivering effective technology solutions.  Project/system process lifecycle experience, including 2+ years of direct project management. Excellent leadership skills with ability to negotiate and work collaboratively; service-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication and organization skills; knowledge of formal project management methodologies, structured software development/system design, and implementation of integrated technologies and processes; comprehensive understanding of business requirements gathering and analysis; understanding of change control/change management and the implications of technology solutions. Must be able to work closely with customers and understand and translate their functional needs into technical requirements. Experience in delivering effective technology solutions in a higher education environment or in the technology supported or enabled delivery of education is required.  Additional education may substitute for experience and additional experience may substitute for education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. 

 

JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate degree in education, business, or a relevant technical discipline.  Experience in leading enterprise-wide software systems. Experience with clinical research projects and/or working in an academic medicine environment. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desirable.

  • During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

  • The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
