IT Project Manager

IT@JH Cloud and Virtualization Services is seeking an IT Project Manager who will be the Research IT (RIT) liaison and primary point of contact for Pathology researchers. All requests for RIT services will be submitted and assigned to the resource.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Bridges the gap between what Pathology researchers want, what researchers have and develop solutions for them.
  • Works with RIT staff and, if necessary, IT@JH teams to accommodate RIT related requests.
  • Coordinates and develops solutions for Pathology researchers and their vendors on a case-by-case basis.
  • Meets with researchers to understand their compute, storage and vendor connectivity needs.
  • Completes and finalizes discovery on an instrument inventory list. Regarding software needs and requests, engaging and navigating IT Risk and the Software Intake Process (SIP) as needed.
  • Facilitates access and provides an understanding of the core RIT services. The work is highly independent and weekly and as needed check-ins with their leadership.


Specific Devices, Software, Projects

  • All RIT assignments related to Pathology will be assigned to this position.
  • The assignments are complex, it is developing solutions for researchers that are secure and fit their needs. Interacting with vendors and understanding their connectivity and technical requirements.


Scale/size of Area, Project and/or System Supported

  • JHU Pathology faculty and their lab staff. Due to the different research needs of each faculty member, there is not one system to support. Faculty can have their own software and potentially hardware that the position will need to understand and support.


On-call Requirements

  • No on-call requirements currently. As the role evolves, there might be an on-call requirement.

Special Physical Requirements 

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs and ability to navigate labs and offices, as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years of IT experience, with some project management experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Must be a problem solver and understand technical computing, storage and connectivity problems.
  • Communication skills are critical with the ability to translate technical language to layman’s terms’.
  • General understanding of a Linux implementation.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desirable

Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
