Laboratory Coordinator

We are seeking a Laboratory Coordinator to work in the Brady Urological Institute and Department of Urology in our Surgical Learning and Innovation Center of Excellence (SLICE) lab. This position will assist in the logistics and event planning of the lab. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who can handle a fast-paced lab environment and planning training courses.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of Dr. Ghazi’s laboratory and SLICE with an emphasis on administrative coordination.
  • Lab logistics inclusive of, but not limited to, ordering lab supplies and materials, managing inventory, generating shipping information, coordinating with lead engineers regarding model deliverables, and communicating directly with sponsors for deliverables.
  • Event planning inclusive of, but not limited to, organizing regular lab meetings between the team and management related to educational courses, placing orders for events (catering, managing delivery of food, and payment), assisting with planning SLICE masterclasses (i.e., contacting visiting faculty, arranging for payment of honorariums, booking flights and hotels, managing registration and payment, communicating with course attendees, booking space and coordinating live surgery, coordinating with industry sponsors and other partners, ordering catering services, scheduling participants, and organizing materials for courses.).
  • Coordinate with department’s grant administration and manager for submitting invoices, assigning expenses to appropriate and applicant accounts.
  • Manage social media for SLICE, including promotional materials. Work with the department’s media and marketing team for promoting events.
  • Process orders or invoices, or undertake other clerical duties under direction of the Director of SLICE and other lab/administrative personnel.
  • Ensure the laboratory is in compliance with environmental health and safety guidelines, coordinate training, monitor and ensure all staff are compliant with set guidelines.
  • Assist the lab in maintaining safety standards for lab inspections coordinating with department administration to ensure compliance.
  • Work with the department’s development team to organize and oversee visits to the lab.
  • Assist with visiting companies, etc., for simulation events, including directions, coordinating schedules and lodging, and other planning.
  • Other administrative tasks for daily operations of Dr. Ghazi’s lab and SLICE.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent and some college working.
  • One year of related laboratory experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Prior event planning experience preferred.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
