Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with lab tasks and research.
  • Assist in the lab with multi-modal data and image processing.
  • Responsible for keeping records in lab notebook and on excel spreadsheets.
  • Knows the informal policies, procedures, and practices necessary to conduct the normal function of a specific section, unit, or work area.
  • Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on the working unit.
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities with supervision.
  • Assist in the lab by processing multi-modal data and images. Run spectroscopy measurements.
  • Maintains accurate data set records.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Exchanges routine information in an appropriate manner requiring good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented, keep clear experimental records, have effective organizational skills, and be able to prioritize workload appropriately. Must be able to perform multiple tasks efficiently and correctly.
  • Experience in basic laboratory procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent with some science coursework.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Training Certificate from Technical Institute preferred.
  • Certificate from technical institute or internship experience preferred.
  • Preferred science courses with lab & research lab experience in biochemistry, image and data processing using MATLAB and/or Python.
  • Experience with data set libraries such as tensorflow or matplotlib.
  • Some related work experience preferred in a comparable lab performing relevant techniques, coupled with a survey knowledge of Biological sciences, Chemistry, or related field.

Starting Salary Range: $15.00 - $18.90/Hr (Commensurate with experience)

30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
